Midwest Publications Announces New Book On Surf & Beach Music Autographs

Midwest Publications has announced the forthcoming new book by Tom Tourville titled, “Sun, Sand, Surf & Sidewalls- Looking Back At Surf & Summer Music As Seen Through Autographs.”

The book, the first of its type, focuses on classic surf music artists from the early 1960's.

It covers over 190 groups/artists with over 430 autographs noted and displayed, all on 100 pages of surfin’ fun. Included are many rare and never before seen autographs, photos, and surf music memorabilia.

This represents the most complete surf music autograph book ever published. This is Tourville’s twenty third published book. It’s a great guide and collectable for surf music fans and autograph collectors.

The introductions for the book were written by Jerry LeMire of the Hondells “Little Honda” and Kevin Mullay, one of the nations top music autograph authorities/collectors.

Leading music journals and newspapers have had this to say about Tourville, “Tourville is a research wizard.” “He is a premier musicologist”, and “Tourville knows his stuff and has a real passion for music research”. Tom is a well respected music columnist, that has been writing for national and Midwest based publications for over 35 years.

His life long love and interest in the surf and hot rod music scene of the early 60's has driven him to create and publish this new book.

The book is available from Midwest Publications at P.O. Box 404, Spirit Lake, Iowa 51360 for $19.50 post paid in the U.S. It can also be found on Amazon.com.

Surf Nut! 7" EP Featuring The Surfites & The Thunderchiefs

V/A - Surf Nut! Surfites & Thunderchiefs 7" EP (Double Crown / Wormtone)

We're incredibly stoked to have released a fabulous new 7" EP featuring The Surfites and The Thunderchiefs, containing two brand new songs from each band! It's a joint effort with Double Crown and Wormtone Records, and will definitely be one of the most talked about (and listened to) releases of the summer! The amazing sleeve art, shown above, was done by famed artist (and Thunderchiefs guitarist) Mike Guerrero.

On one side you get Swedish faves The Surfites with "This Time Tomorrow" and "Hot Dog On A Stick". Flip it over and you get two more boss tunes from Austin, TX surf combo The Thunderchiefs - "Kook Patrol" and "Tomsco Twist".

While the music and amazing artwork is best enjoyed in the 7" vinyl format, we do understand that many of you don't have turntables. For you, we have the digital version of the EP, which can be downloaded at: iTunes ~ CD Baby ~ Emusic

Tracks: The Surfites: This Time Tomorrow - Hot Dog On A Stick / The Thunderchiefs: Kook Patrol - Tomsco Twist

FIBERGLASS JUNGLE - New 2 Hour Surf Music Radio Show on Luxuriamusic.com!

Fiberglass Jungle Logo

This Saturday, April 6 from 2-4PM (Pacific) will mark the debut of a new weekly 2 hour Surf Music radio show on Luxuriamusic.com called FIBERGLASS JUNGLE.

Luxuria is an extremely well known and fanatically followed internet station that presents 24 hours of unusual, specialized programming geared to those with more retro sensibilities. The station features a number of fantastic shows hosted by some pretty heavy hitters covering a wide range of genres and styles--Garage, Psychedelic, Jazz, Easy Listening, Exotica, Lounge, Space Age Pop, Bachelor Pad, Incredibly Strange and Outsider Music, and much more!

Fiberglass Jungle will present the very best in recordings that fall under the wide instrumental Surf Music umbrella. This base encompasses the “pre-surf” instrumental Rock n’ Roll tunes of the late 50s, the classic “First Wave” originators of the early 60s, the “Second Wave” bands of the late 70s and early 80s, the crossover, genre-blending “Third Wave” bands of the 90s, the cutting-edge, description-defiant melting pot of current-day innovators, as well as a healthy dose of Spaghetti Western, international styles such as Japanese Eleki and Finnish Rautalanka, Surf-Guitar-based Exotica, Easy Listening, and Spy/Crime Jazz.

There will be a proper web presence coming soon, which will likely include a blog where each week's playlist and band/song/album information will be posted regularly.

To submit music, press releases or other Surf Music related news, please feel free to contact fiberglassjungle@yahoo.com.

A note regarding Surfin' Sundays 2013

Aloha Everyone…

The following message is extremely important, please read carefully…

Although I am currently down sick with bronchitis for the second time this month I have need to address something very important…

You may or may not have heard rumors circulating around the surf music and surrounding communities coming supposedly from the museum…

Let me put all the rumors regarding Surfin’ Sundays 2013 Summer Concert Series and my continued involvement to bed once and for all…

The rumors that I have been made aware of don’t reflect the opinion of the current Board of Directors nor the future of Surfin’ Sundays…

Rest assured I am totally committed to Surfin’ Sundays concerts being run in the same fashion as I have been doing for the past 8 years…

Surfin’ Sundays is my lifeblood and I have invested my passion, heart and soul into it and intend to do so till I can no longer function…

I am currently working with the city of HB to set up the 2013 schedule both at the pier and HBISM and will be booking bands shortly…

In the next couple of weeks I will be filling out the extensive paperwork to obtain our permits and business license from the city of HB…

As for the meeting with the city of HB next month, it is strictly for me to attend in order to obtain our permits for Surfin’ Sundays…

Jeff BTD will be working with me and our faithful musicians to insure the we give you the best entertainment we have to offer…

Unless you hear directly from me please disregard any further rumors as total unwarranted deception coming from one individual…

If you any information, concerns, comments and or questions please email me directly at my usual dragonfly address…

Even though I am not responsible for this deception I feel the need to let you know I am deeply sorry for any stress this may have caused you…

Mahalo for your continued support…

Your humble servant,

Linda Miller

2013 Secretary/Director Surfin’ Sundays

Surfabilly Freakout Radio presents: Throttlebilly Beach Riot!

Throttlebilly Beach Riot CD Cover

Surfabilly Freakout Radio hit the airwaves in May of 2006 on WPGU 107.1 FM in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.  The show features surf, garage, psychobilly, rockabilly, and spaghetti western music performed (mostly) by modern bands.    The CD is high-energy from start to finish with a sound reflective of the radio show.  The fantastic band line-up includes The Cocktail Preachers, The Madeira, The Coffin Daggers, The Nebulas, 9th Wave, Daikaiju, The Creepy Creeps, Go! Tsunami, The Men from S.P.E.C.T.R.E., the Mutants, The Heavies, Knuckel Drager, The Love Me Nots, The Brains, The Koffin Kats, the Krank Daddies, The Phantom Jets, The Phenomenauts & Vegas 66!

A full track listing a purchase information can be found here:  http://www.surfabillyfreakout.com/the-cd.html

Surfabilly Freakout Radio is definitely about the music, but it was apparent early-on that there would be more... this part that we refer to as "Jackassery, Tom Foolery and Damn Fool Boobery."  "Freakout Studios" (WPGU FM) has six microphones and the original DJs (Jet Sterling and Reverend Chuck Allen) were soon joined by a large cast of characters. Today, there is rarely a show when all six aren't in use (and often, there are more DJs than mics).  The DJ crew, which grew early-on to include Chelsea Bandita, Koffin Keith, Motorhead Mike and the Director of Awesome expanded into booking and promoting live shows in Champaign-Urbana... often recruiting new DJs out of the crowd.  Local gigs led to remote DJ/MC gigs as well as providing organizational assistance at surf, Tiki and hot rod events throughout the Midwest and on the East Coast.

For a raucous selection of surf, garage and 'billy, check out "Throttlebilly Beach Riot!".  We hope you dig it!
