I am pleased to announce the SurfGuitar101 2016 MP3 Compilation! Our 12th one! Just like before, this is a way for members to share music, recording tips, and to just have fun. The main emphasis is fun, so please send in an entry no matter what your skill level is. Here are the rules:

1. You must be a member of this website to submit an mp3.
2. You may submit only 1 mp3.
3. The mp3 you submit must not have appeared on any "official" release before. Likewise, please don't submit anything that is destined for an official release in the future.
4. The file must be in mp3 format and less than 8 MB in size.
5. There is a good chance the comp will end up on Archive.org. Therefore, you must agree to their Creative Commons (Attribution, Non-Commercial, No-Derivatives) License for your mp3.
6. The deadline for submitting an mp3 is Friday, December 16th, 2016.

Please use the comment thread for this news story to discuss the compilation and to get information on how to submit an mp3. Please also use that thread if you'd like to find a fellow member to work with on the project. With the magic of digital recording and the Internet, remote collaborations are possible. We've just released a mini-EP for Halloween, entitled "Spooky Tales and Scary Noises". Two songs exhumed from the crypt, full of reverb and terror!

Milwaukee's own instro surf rockers The Tikinauts will be appearing in studio Monday September 26 on the Mancow Morning Show on Chicago's The Loop 97.9 FM. The Mancow Show is a nationally syndicated program across 50 U.S. markets. The Tikinauts (featuring Drew, Pete and Jeff of The Revomatics) will be joined by James Oppedisano, owner of Chicago's famous Tiki establishment Hala Kahiki Tiki Bar & Lounge to discuss Tiki culture and surf music. The band will also be performing live in studio and will be surfin' the airwaves beginning at 7 AM until 9:30 AM CST. In Chicago tune into 97.9 FM. We are a band from Orange County, California, formed in 2015. We play some energetic instrumental music that mixes different sub-genres of surf, from western to sci-fi, from traditional to spooky, with a touch of exotic influences here and there.

This EP includes 6 songs, that take you along the lonely roads of Nevada ("Along Highway 375"), Central America ("Azteca Verano") and the old West ("Escape in Durango") with some stops along the coast ("Slalom Under the Pier", "The Gillins Beach Secret"). The EP ends with "A Fistful of Gold in the West", our surf tribute to the great Ennio Morricone.
