PDX A Go-Go... Five bands...ten songs...that preserve a moment in time, the summer of 2012, when instrumental surf music rode the crest of a wave in Portland, OR. Musicians are forming surf bands, several venues are giving these bands a stage and an audience is growing. Duff's Garage, the club that always gave instro surf a home, is ground zero. There's an excitement about the bands and the music. Many different directions are being explored by these bands, proving that a subgenre thought by many to be one-dimensional is anything but.
The Surf Weasels, WaveSauce, Susan SurfTone, The Outer Space Heaters, and Shade 13 offer you a sample of what's going on here on the northern end of the west coast. We hope you enjoy it and that you come to a few shows. Pick up a copy of PDX A Go-Go from any of the bands on the compilation or wait until CDBaby has it in stock (we'll let you know... just check back here in a few weeks.) Tell your friends "there's a party going on here in Portland that you should know about"... come and join us.
ImageBonney & Buzz - Play Rough CD (Double Crown)
Bonney & Buzz have delivered yet another album filled with exquisite rock n' roll instrumentals. The duo features Bill Bonney of The Fentones ("The Mexican" and "The Breeze & I") and Pete "Buzz" Miller ("Can Can 62" and "Totem Pole"), who was also half of the popular Shig & Buzz duo. This time they go a for a darker, more menacing sound as they "play rough" with twelve original guitar and 6-string bass twangers. Guaranteed to appeal to fans of surf, instro rock and Euro-instro sounds. Cover art comes from Ferenc Dobronyi (Frankie & The Poolboys/Pollo Del Mar/The TomorrowMen)
Tracks: Perestroika - Wounded Knee - Jungle Surf - Swampfrog - The Hunter - Low Rider - Mystery Surfer - Teenheat - Devils Slide - Rampant - Deep Sleep - The Eternal Surf

The Surfaders have just released their first CD: "Dragstrip Murder Mystery." Thirteen tracks of genuine Surf Noir: a mix of classic surf guitar, punk energy, new-wave sensibility and a pinch of exotica.
The ultra-cool melodies on this album wil conjure up images of Philip Marlow downing white russians with the Dude at a South-Western Titty-Bar; of Nobody shooting it out with Vincent Vega during a storm at Key Largo; of Dr. Sam Loomis seducing Kay Lawrence in a sweltering dismal Swamp. Get it, or miss out! "Dragstrip Murder Mystery" is available via surfaders@hotmail.nl or cdbaby. Be quick 'cause the first edition is selling fast!

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it or not but the new Phantom Four album "Morgana" is offically out. I've heard the entire album and must say it has everything you come to expect from Phantom Frank and the gang. Yes this is the instrumental album, not the "Sounds From The Obscure" featuring Arguido aka RudeBoy. You have several options when purchasing either or both. I personally don't mind the Argido material as I was a fan of his former group Urban Dance Squad. http://thephantomfour.bandcamp.com/album/morgana
The Madeira - Tribal Fires CD (Double Crown)
After eight years of adventures through the Saharan deserts, with “Tribal Fires” the Madeira have gone Sub-Saharan, into the dark and mysterious depths of central African jungles. It’s a journey that finds the band exploring new sounds with a highly diverse album, ranging from the most aggressive to the most melodic songs (including a tribute to The Shadows) the band has ever done – and everything in between. There are 13 songs in total, of which two are covers: an original arrangement of Ernesto Lecuona’s “Jungle Drums,” and the Atlantics’ “Giant”.
