Born on the 4th of July, here's our new album, Farewell To Dignity. Pairs well with fireworks and battling corrupt regimes.
Surf rock has a history, but what can it do NOW? That's the question that burns beneath The Spoils' sound, applying familiar Fender reverb to a furious noise rooted in rage at the blatant theft of humanity's wealth and the planet's resources by those who already have too much. Using surf's near-universal populist appeal, The Spoils expand its rhythmic vocabulary beyond beachy backbeats into Brazilian samba, Japanese taiko, Russian folk and gnarled math-rock. Deceptively simple, catchy melodies sweeten the dense layers of feedback and double-picked guitar, with nods to the band's shared love of garage rock and post-punk along the way.
Have a listen and enjoy! For those outside Austin, we'll be playing live on the internet on July 5th at Safehouse session #27 and then having our release party on Saturday, July 8th at Nomad Bar for Second Saturday Surf, hope you can make it!
Hi everybody! Below you'll find some basic info on the record and a few links to videos, Spotify and the record label's shop. Check it out. Hope you like it. Enjoy!
Janne
”You Are Here” is the debut album of Janne Haavisto & The Shubie Brothers and Sisters. Janne Haavisto, the drummer of the late Laika & The Cosmonauts (that called it quits in 2008) makes a comeback to the surf sound with over 20 friends ranging from Los Straitjackets' Pete Curry to childhood friend Sami Yaffa of Hanoi Rocks and New York Dolls. The record is an exciting combination of soul, reggae, latin, exotica and world music influences, blended in cinemascopic soundscapes. Rhythmically versatile, it flows naturally through dreamy slow moods to more hectic moments.
On the album you'll hear Haavisto play guitars, drums, percussion, organ, mellotron, vibraphone, marxophone...
Janne Haavisto & The Shubie Brothers is also a live band:
Janne Haavisto, drums
Abdissa ”Mamba” Assefa, percussion
Miikka Paatelainen, guitar
Jussi Jaakonaho, guitar
Jukka Kiviniemi, bass

The Doltones - Dance Or Die CD (Double Crown Records)
It's the debut full-length CD by The Doltones, an up-and-coming surf/instro combo based in Finland that is popular in Scandinavia, and will become a favorite worldwide with this 13 song release. Mixing surf, instrumental rock, Rautalanka and spaghetti western melodies and twang, you'll be wowed by the performances, songwriting and production from start to finish. Most of the songs are originals, but they have worked in covers of some obscure classics, such as "Space Probe", "Theme From The Unknown", "Department S", "Les Aventuriers" and "Collision Course". Guitars, bass, drums and occasional trumpet deliver a sound that you'll play over and over, and surely contributing to your summer soundtrack.
Tracks: Space Probe - Dance Or Die - Theme From The Unknown - Speed Driver - Mysterioso - Triumph A Go-Go - Department S - Hot Swinger - Les Aventuriers - Collision Course - Quicksand - Latin Surfer - Return To The Jupiter
