Looks like the Doctor is into some surfy desert road house this week.

Hi Crumble, I thought the same thing while watching Doctor Who last night: This is something to report on the sg101 "hearing surf guitar in unexpected places" thread. Thanks for posting a clip!

His guitar had caught my eye in the season's first episode. It looks like a Yamaha SGV800 with a cool samurai headstock.

A couple of weeks ago I was in London to go and see The Libertines and did a bit of record shopping beforehand. Walked into Reckless Records in Soho and 'The Vortex Beyond' by Man Or Astro-Man? was playing. Left with a copy of 'Destroy All Astromen!' to boot!

Watched the movie "Big Eyes" on Saturday, which had several period correct songs including "Ric A Tic" by the Lively Ones. Beach Boys "In My Room" was used to set the tone for one of the saddest scenes. For anyone that remembers the Keane pop art,and subsequent court case this is worth watching.

Cool movie- I missed all surf references; the Big Eyes had me mesmerized. If you were taking in oxygen back then, you saw the Big Eyes in every dime store and grocery store around. Fascinating story and answers the question "Who the hell painted these things?".

This probably doesn't count, but last night the Oscars orchestra played a bit of "Miserlou" between presenters (yes I watched and yes it was painful). Mad

Could you detect a reason for the selection or was it just mindless Hollywood being Kool?

Watch 2 independent movies and call your doctor in the morning. Thank you for the reminder that I missed it.

Probably because Mr. Morricone was up for an Oscar for Best Original Score (which he won) in a film by Quentin Tarantino, who brought him over from Italy for the event. They also did an intermission little blend of "Few Dollars More" stuff at one point. So probably a connection there.

Just snippets gathered from occasionally passing thru the living room; I don't watch these things. (But happy for Mr. Morricone at any rate.)

I watched a youtube vid of Johnny Farina (Santo and Johnny - Sleep Walk) yesterday of him in concert and he played Pipeline on the steel guitar.

Funny you say that Badge, The Surge! has an original entitled "Pompous
Surfinstance." I wrote it years back and plan to put it on the next CD if we can get another one brewing.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?
