Yeah, "Cat on a Hot Foam Board"
Good enough that Slacktone and The Ghastly
Ones covered it live.

My most surprising Surf Music in unexpected places for me was a few years ago. My Work flew me to California to take an intensive one-week course in Photoshop. The class was in San Anselmo, I got booked into a Motel further up into the mountains in a small town called Fairfax, in the Muir Redwoods. My room was over the downstairs Bar called “19 Broadway” it was late at night and as I was unpacking and getting settled and what do I hear Being played LIVE downstairs? Penetration! I couldn’t get down there fast enough. It was the last set Of a Surf/Tiki band called APE. The whole time they played, there was an artist/drummer in the middle of the stage Hand-carving a HUGE TIKI to the rhythm of the music. A great group and show. After the show, I talked to the band and they said I was the first person to know the name of THAT song!
The last thing I ever expected to hear, high in the woods!

Yeah, Noel, I gave them another listen when I got home. They had a good reverb-drenched sound and some excellent originals.

Kim, Ape is a cool band, that's neat you got to see them.
They are a fun mix of surf, hawaiian, calypso and exotica.

American Pickers, season 5 episode 13 "California Steaming". After they make a deal on an item, "Double Barrel" by Aloha Screwdrivers kicks in.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

How about the theme song to "Better Call Saul"? Bluesy, but could be a surf tone.

At SF Giants home games they play a little bit of Miserlou every time Nori Aoki comes up to bat. (His chosen walk-up music Cool )

Getting out of my car at the local Arco station this morning and hearing "Pipeline" at the pump made my day. Then the vibe was killed by following it up with Gloria Estefan doing "Conga" No

Visited SeaWorld in San Diego this week. Music played throughout the park changes from one sector to the other. Near the Shark Encounter the Discoveries shop has surfboards racked up against the building and the music playing outside in this area is instrumental surf music. It is SeaWorld after all but, still surprising to hear surf music at a theme park. Did not recognize any songs, perhaps it was surf-muzak.

Happy Sunsets!

Anyone listen to Ron Bennington (at SiriusXM)? Radio genius, legendary interviewer, the last relevant broadcast dinosaur of these times. He regularly breaks with surf numbers - a lot of Rumble and Surf Rider. Last few weeks he's been playing even newer stuff, I've heard The Space Cossacs, Insect Surfers and Mermen.
Someone should reach out to him, I'm certain he'd be interested in exploring the current surf scene even more. The guy has reach, and a cool, dedicated listener base.

BenningtonShow, Weekdays noon to 3 ET on SiriusXM Raw Dog 99. Replay airing on SiriusXM Indie 102 9am to noon ET.

Just to make clear - he's not a Music D.J. (anymore) it's a comedy-talk show. Honest, funny and insightful.
I personally catch it on "the Internet".

We were watching the first part of "Independance Day" on TV, and all of a sudden I recognize Link Wray's "Rumble" playing on a diner jukebox, I think. (about 19 minutes in?)
Randy Quaid's character is being eased about his earlier alien abduction, and when the alien ship passes there's a shaking that coincides with the solo part (such as it is) up on the 12th fret.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

This afternoon at about 3:30 in Wal-Greens I heard BAJA by the Astronauts just playing away over the store PA system. Only in Gulf Shores I guess. Thumbs Up

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

if........you were from out of town, driving to our beach today and knew surf music........you would have heard playing on our local community station 'the oasis' by the madeira. (since it was me it doesn't count)
