My favorites are Kirkman's graphic novels The Walking Dead, The Rising by Brian Keen, and Zombie University by Trip Ellington

I just LOVE TWD! From first sight it is really "28 days later" like, really cool and exiting. I think season 2 was a bit like a song i once wrote...
9 min. of the tone "a", and then in the very end - a suddenly change to a "e". Know what I mean?
Looking forward to the next season!

Don't forget....Season 3 kicks off this Sunday, Oct. 14!!! Can't wait!!!

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

In preparation, I just finished reading the prison story arc in the graphic novels, so it should be fun to see where the screenwriters take it. (Seeing that The Governor will indeed play a big part in the screenplay, I'm expecting some awesomeness.)

I've read the books past this point, but am really looking forward to getting to see the new season. I will have to avoid this thread until I get current. This is the only show that irritates me about not having television service. I'm content to wait for everything else.

The Mystery Men?
El Capitan and The Reluctant Sadists
SSS Agent #31

I dropped cable right after the end of season 1 and haven't had it since. Net-Flix has all of season 2 and that's where I am. Even though I'm a bit behind, it doesn't bother me. Net-Flix streaming for 8 bucks a month is much better than $50 a month for a bunch of channels I never watch.

Firetone, I thought the same exact thing on the Season 1 opener: that it was a copy of 28 Days Later. I found out it was much more. Almost like a soap-opera with some twists. Yeah, a lot of it is pretty predictable, but it's good overall.

Matt22, this is my wife and I as well, no cable just netflix and our library, which stays fairly current. We just finished season 2. It's still an event when the next season is available to us, it's just six months or so behind. We watch all of the cable series this way, Boardwalk Empire, Californication, etc.

Last nights season 3 opener was awesome! I watched it twice, and geeked out with the "Talking Dead" talk show afterwards.

I have to admit that most of my 'series' watching is done through either Netflix or downloading the episodes the next day through torrents. My schedule rarely allows for me to catch shows during their initial run and I simply am too stingy to spring for a DVR.

Alright who is gonna do a surf cover of that Main Theme? I can totally hear Laika & the Cosmonauts doing it!

Ha! I've thought the same thing many times!!!!! In fact, one of my bucket list goals is to record an entire album of Horror film material, surf-style!

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

I will watch it all.
but, is it me, or is it too dramatic, ( soap opera-ish)
for any others also?

I dunno; I think the real value in a show like this lies in the character development & interaction, and the exploration of individual & group psychology in a hostile survival situation. Sometimes the drama gets a little thick, and some characters will either take unpleasant or at least unexpected turns or are simply terrible people (Lori, we're all looking at you), but I'm finding it compelling viewing in a way few shows have managed to pull off with me.

Of course, the nice weekly dose of gorn doesn't hurt either... Yes

I love TWD opening theme! Spent all of last week catching up on Season 2.

Saying a Zombie-themed show is "too dramatic" is like saying porn has too much sex.

Ah yes, true, but let's not confuse "Drama" with "Horror".
A movie or show can certainly have both but I think a lot of old school horror fans prefer the drama to be kept to the scary side of things, not so much the psychological.
I really like the show, as does my wife who is way more of a horror/zombie aficionado than I am, and while I like some of the psychological "end of the world" interplay amongst the characters I think the script for these portions of the show could be cut back or scenes a little shorter. Walking Dead is most likely intended as a double meaning, the alive who still "live" and the dead who are out there creating havoc.
Me, I like zombies! LOL
