I left comments on all the songs, and I really enjoyed listening to all of them again - I think there are some really great songs. It takes a fair amount of guts to submit a song, no matter who you are. I think everone that submitted should be proud of themselves for doing it. After the success of the last comp, I figured ther would be 50 submissions. The sight has over 600 members, and 24 people submitted a song. And some people that I thought would - didn't submit a song - so - way to go everyone!
Everyone has an idea about what surf music is to them, which is interesting too. All different styles are represented. I was impressed with the quality of recording and playing -

I know for me, it was a fun project - I'd never really written a song, and I didn't really know how to go about recording it. I had a rough mix that I layed down in about 10 minutes that sounded better than the 3 other versions that I worked hours at. My first quicky version had two awesome guitar sounds on lead and rhythm, but was full of poor timing and missed notes. I spent a ton of time trying to reproduce the guitar tones, and couldn't get it done. also, I threw the drummer under the bus making her play along to my demo - my timekeeping was horrible. The end result is close to what I was hoping for, but I still didn't nail the guitar sounds of the original demo. I hope to do better in the future.

Like Sonichris, I listened to, and left a comment for, every song. It took a while....let's see... i had dinner in the middle and desert towards the end but was well worth it and i'm proud to have a song with such talented musicians.
If i can.....i thought "Tempori Parendum" was the best surf tune. If that's really Danny Snyder then he's a really good guitarist with great equipment. My hat's off to him and his gang of reverb ridden misfits from Berkeley which i would follow into any battle.

Just to Stir the Pot It should be called the 2007 compilation, or else in 3 weeks it will be a year old.

Yet it was compiled in 2006. Confused Maybe it should be Volume II Wink image

Butch - great job on the artwork.

It will be called the 2006 comp, because, well, it was compiled in 2006.

Here are the plans. I intend to get this on archive.org soon if they will still have us. Someone might want to make a track listing for a cd case insert. Just go by the date on the tracks...this link will help:

Order by date

Taking a suggestion from MidwestSurfGuy (where has he been lately??), I will edit everyone's MP3 track information to match the above before uploading to archive.org.

Great job people. Keep discussiong the songs...I didn't mean to interrupt...:)

Hey Brian - I noticed that some of the tracks don't have the band or performer listed, while others do - do you think you could remedy this?
( I ask because mine is one that doesn't have my name on it )

I've been enjoying reading everyones comments about all the songs. Especially while I listen to the track.

I burned a disc this weekend, and was blown away by how everything sounds. Up until now, I've only listened to them on the computer, and while I have pretty decent speakers, It was even better on the big home stereo.

Yeah, sorry, that is one thing I started to do at the beginning and then as time went on I forgot to do that. I'll put it on the to-do list. Or I may move them to archive.org first.

Something like this? (I used the author information, and went through the track descriptions for band names...)

(Edit - the corrected one is the other one on the other post below, sorted by date, and no double 21's... Wink )

That's way cool Butch..but I think you went alphabetical on me. If you click on the link that I posted above it shows them by date. Not that I really care. Does anyone care what the track order is? I was gonna go by date, but alphabetical is fine. Or if someone wants to suggest an order, go for it. If no one cares lets go alphabetical since Butch did all that work.

Chris do they all fit on one CD this time?

Reordered the tracks by date...no biggie, although somehow I ended up with 25 tracks , instead of 24...? Did I miss someone on the first round, or did I throw one in twice? I went over it and cant tell... Hmmm

Yes they all fit - I still have pointpeakspys Pipeline on the list, but even with it, it came in at about 72 minutes I think.

You have two songs numbered 21 Butch...
That's the problem...
