Now is all the Electric wiring done and the reverb works fine, the relays do what they should do and the effect bypass led turn on on the front panel when the reverb effect is off in either mode. Ifyou don't connect the footswitch to the reverb the reverb work just as a standard 6G15. I realy could recomen to use a relay instead of sending the reverbsignal out on the floor to the footswitch.

Now I have to finish the cabinet, here some pictures of what it looks like now. Here it's shown in bypass mode so the bypass led is on.

Some progress, now have I finish the Power supply card and I put in another 7812 to the 12V feed for the relays. I Think that the voltage to the relays will be unstabilized with out the LM7812 around 16-17V so I put in another one for the relays to be on the safe side. I Think it's better to separate the the relay circut from the audio circut to prevent switching noise from the relays.

It looks like this now, not so much more to do

Hej Busse, kul att se dig här på forumet Smile

Nice to see you here at the forum again Smile
Very ambitious build, is that a screen printed chassis?

Screen printing is fun, I have tried it for some of my builds!

Tack!

The front and back panel is a stickers not screen printed, I have build about ten amps and such stuff with this type of panels. I design the panels in Adobe Illustrator and the leave it to a pro to print and laminate the stickers.

I willnow sand the filler in the corner of the cabinett and the make a 9 mm radius on the corners, then I going to use blonde tolex for cover.

Hope you understand my English, I'm not so good but I try Whatever

Hello! New owner of the R5 board here. So I've got all of it soldered wired up inside a holiday cookie metal tin box. Followed the diagram. I plug everything in and I get quite reverb and hum. I tried looking for a solution in the thread...

A grounding I'm not sure of is the AC... Is it supposed to be grounded to 1 of the 2 prongs? Thanks

Hi Thomas. While I do not know about the ground, this sounds very much like you've switched the rca cables. Had the same 'issue' when I fired up my build for the first time and simply switching the cable (red/white) solved it. Hope that helps.

Hi Thomas
Sorry about the problem.
The "upside down T" symbol is electrical ground.
Can you describe what power supply you are using and how it is connected?

Hello Björn. The power supply is: input 120 VAC 60 Hz, output 12 VDC 500 mA. Negative outside positive inside

Hello Thomas, I have ordered a R5 board that should be arriving any day now. I've been looking over the instructions and I think I've found at least one of your problems. The instructions call for a 1A or greater power supply. At 500mA you are only supplying half of 1A.

Another way to think of it is 1A is the same as 1000mA. Also, it is always OK to use an adapter with more power,e.g., 1.5A, 2A, as long as the voltage is the same. Your R5 will use as much power it needs, but it needs to get at least a minimum of 1A.

I also believe the adapter needs to be the opposite of what you have: Positive outside Negative inside, according to this post by LeeVanCleef

Good luck with it,
Tim

That's a pain, I bought a 12V 1 amp centre positive, not negative...

It is not a problem you just need to wire the socket to match the plug.

It's explained on Björn's website.
"The easiest way to get the polarity right is to connect the powers supply connector to the DC jack and measure the pins on the jack with a volt meter, before connecting the wires to the board."

Yes, and the R5 board is fully protected against reverse polarity voltage Smile

Thomas, do you get the dry guitar sound when all pots are set to 0?
If you also got hum, the problem is normally:
1. The wires pick up hum from the surroundings. The board and pots need a shielded metal box (chassis) to minimize the hum.
2. The power supply dont deliver a clean 12V dc supply voltage. My experience is that most modern 'switch mode' power adapters works very good. They usually looks like this: (European versions)

If you want to discuss offline, please mail me!

Björn, the guitar dry doesn't sound when all the pots are set to 0. I will buy a new DC supply. Will this work/fix the hum?

Yes, I have used that model, it worked great for me!

I am little surprised you dont get any guitar sound at all.
Please check the soldering joints, wiring and guitar cables.
If possible, can you measure the supply voltage on the pcb terminals?
Maybe you can post a few pictures of your build or mail them to me?

Hello! I've switched the power supply and no more hum! (Just a little due to the cables). Anyway, the output is really quiet. I'm getting a dry at least but both the dry and reverb are a lot quieter then it's supposed to be. I've already sent Björn with an email about it, but I want to know what you've all experienced! Thanks Smile

Several problems because I read the diagrams wrong. Sent detailed photos to Björn, and with his support, managed to get all the connections right (I had a pot wired wrong and mixed up rev in and out). After that, all fine, great sound in good volume.

^^ Let's see this thing !

Warioblast: Do you mean me our thomastaylors? My “several problems“ post was just the answer to Thomas “what you all experienced“ question - So the problems could all be dealt with due to Björn's help. No need to post my “how to do it wrong“ pics Smile

It's taken me 2 days to completely read through this ENTIRE thread, after reading the first few pages I am hooked on getting a Surfy Bear. I JUST got my Spring King too lol haven't even used it,now I'm gonna have to buy one of these and slowly build an awesome tank. Luckily I got a good friend who works at a machine shop and my father in law works with sheet metal for a living building enclosures for electrical boxes and insulating pipes,I think I got this in the bag lol. Such a good read!!! Got some great ideas and even more inspiration!!

If you want the ultimate, you gotta be willing to pay the ultimate price.
