Thanks for the feedback, Bjorn. I ended up adjusting the trim pot and that totally did the trick. I was as careful as I could be and I seem not to have screwed it up. It's much more useable now and I can finally proceed to putting everything into the enclosure and make it presentable enough to post some pics. |

I usually don’t recommend adjustment of the little trimmer, it’s factory set to the same gain as 6g15. But in your case it might be a good idea to lower the gain. Please be careful, the trimmer is a fragile.

Hey everyone, i have a question about switches. I'm looking to order a switch from tubeampdoctor and I see there are various types. I'm certain I don't want a momentary push switch, that would require me to keep my foot on the switch in order for the effect to be activated. I suspect I want the DPDT push switch, their description says: "metal, solder lug terminals used by Fender, Marshall, Hughes&Kettner" Am I correct in assuming that by installing this switch, it will give me true bypass? |

The 'P' stands for 'poles' or the number of 'contact points' you want to switch (input, output, LED => 3 poles). The 'T' stands for 'throws' or the number of positions/states you want the contact points to be in. (input jack to PCB IN or to output jack, output jack to pcb OUT or to input jack, LED to power or not to power => each in two possible positions/states) If you're using an indicator LED, you need a 3PDT switch for true bypass. (3 poles, two/double throws) |

In response to something I read earlier in this thread: I run my SB on my pedal board, with the tank underneath. Last night the Tentakills played a gig on an extended stage, which was a bit bouncy. Flimsy even. Like, use caution, you stay over there and I'll stay here kind of flimsy. Lots of movement. It was the first time I've had the tank crash unintentionally. It seems to me that you would have to be in an extreme circumstance to have a pedalboard mounted SB crash unintentionally. Anyway, it was a good gig and nobody died. |

Hello gang, I’m looking to start my Surfybear build and a mate gave me some spare parts for the on/off and lamp but I’m not sure if they are suitable. It is a 2A 250v DPST power switch and lamp holder like the ones fender amps use. I plan to order a 12v led to fit in the holder.
I’m a little confused by the switch and wondered if you guys can clarify a few points

I am not sure about this particular switch but you can try to connect your switch as on my picture below.
I recommend that you look for a 12V bulb, LED if you like. Then you dont need a series resistor. At places they sell car parts you should be able to find one.
No, I think you should connect the lamp as shown on in the schematic in the UsersGuide.

I couldn't hope to match the craftsmanship of Johmnydevil55's build, but I did finish my Surfy Bear kit build and wanted to share. When your pedalboard looks like this: An outboard reverb tank oughta look like it belongs with it. So I thought somewhat long and hard and decided a power tool case would work best, and a Sawzall case was the right shape and about the right size. And so it was:
There's still plenty of room inside for cables and one of those Drip Switches that Mel Waldorf sells, and it'll fit right in on stage sitting next to my toolbox/pedalboard. Loving the sound of it, and it's making me like surf music more and more. |

Hi all, I read this entire thread over the course of a week an a half. Very informative, I feel pretty secure with how the SB should be wired. However I have a question about assembly technique more than anything. My soldering experience pretty much all comes from wiring Stratocasters in various configurations. In that capacity it's normally suggested that install everything in the pickguard before soldering so you know how long the wires should be. However most people working of SB's seem to wire everything up before they install the components. Anyone have an opinion on the best way to approach this? Should I just measure out the the length of wires I'll need and uninstall everything to wire up the board? Thanks in advance. |
