I might be wrong, but I always thought the Torquays were a traditional surf band formed in the 90s. Or did they also play and record in the 60s?
Anyway, it's a great song (and always part of our set list) and Steve Soest would surely see it as a compliment to have it included among the classics.

looking at my list i'm thinking i'm wrong on the era of the clee shays. i can't find when the tune 'beyond' was written by spickard/carman but the CD i have is a 1998 release.
i guess i'm down to 9 tunes. i'll find one more.
upon further investigation the clee shays compilation was released in 1998 but apparently the recordings were from 1965-1966. richard delvy was involved in this group of musicians.
so, i guess i'm back up to 10 tunes.

Hanna-Barbera Presents Squiddly Diddly's Surfin' Safari - "Surf Busters". Yep I know it might not be the most sensible 1960s surf track but it's one heck of a guitar piece and I can't help but include it.

OK... I've toiled over this for the better part of the week. With the familiar caveat that lists like this are tough almost to the point of being impossible, here are my top ten classics (as of now, anyway... these kinds of lists are always in flux if you ask me.):

USA
- The Ventures - Penetration
- Dick Dale & The Deltones - The Victor
- The Fender IV - Everybody Up!

- The Astronauts - Firewater
- The Sandals - Theme From Endless Summer

- Eddie & The Showmen - Dark Eyes
- The Road Runners - Road Runnah

I knew it was going to be hard, so I kept putting it off. The modern list looks to be even harder.

Gaaaahhhh, as many others have noted, it's very hard to narrow it down to just 10, so the spill-over is included. Missing so many more. The Surf Revival top 10 will be just as hard if not harder.
