Hello,
1) Pipeline Chantays (Dick Dale & SRV a close second)
2) Misirlou Dick Dale
3) Walk Don't Run the Ventures
4) Bombora the Atlantics
5) Wipe Out the Surfaris
6) Penetratrion the Pyramids
7) Mr. Moto the Belairs
8 ) Mr. Rebel Eddie and the Showmen
9) Bulldog the Challengers
10) Baja the Chantays (prefer the Chantays version over the original by the Astronauts)
That is tough to do. I had to leave out so many songs I really like.
Norm
I can think of several others equally deserving to be on the list. Tough to choose. I really wanted to include Surfside by the Denvermen. But I could not bring myself to remove any of those 10 from the list. Also, Nitro by Dick Dale is one of my favorites. But I could not decide if it should be listed as classical or re-birth (I tend to think rebirth), so I left Nitro off both lists.
I see I did not follow instructions well.

- The Ventures - "Journey to the Stars"
- The Crossfires - "Fiberglass Jungle"
- The Fender IV - "Mar Gaya"
- Jim Messina & The Jesters - "The Jester"
- The Original Surfaris - "Bombora"
- Dave Myers & The Surftones - "Gear"
- Eddie & The Showmen - "Squad Car"
- The Surfaris - "Point Panic"
- The Atlantics - "War of the Worlds"
- Dick Dale & His Del-Tones - "Misirlou" (because we all know it's going to win, but at the same time leaving it off just feels wrong)
— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Hello again,
Do you want us to specify whose recording of the song we are referring to? For instance, when I say Bombora I think of the Atlantics and when I say Pipeline I think of the Cantays. Of course other bands have covered those songs. Many of the standards have been covered by several bands.

Dear Norm,
Please do. Even in the 60´s lots of tracks have been done by numerous artists. So please specify the artist.
Thanks,
Niels.

Without losing too much sleep about it, I'd say my personal top ten classic surf tracks are (at the moment):
- The Original Surfaris - Bombora
- Eddie & the Showmen - Toes on the Nose
- The Fender IV - Everybody Up!
- Richie Allan & the Pacific Surfers - The Quiet Surf
- The Tornadoes - Malaguena (which actually is a version of 'Dark Eyes')
- The Centurions - Bullwinkle Pt. II
- Dick Dale & his Del-Tones - Shake 'n' Stomp
- The Surfaris - Point Panic
- Bob Vaught & the Renegaids - Surfin' Tragedy
- The Lively Ones - Goofy Foot
I know that some of this stuff is probably not first choice (or Surfers' Choice ) for most people here, but I just went with what came to my mind first and influenced me most for getting more into the genre, learning to play etc.
It would be interesting to have the result of this poll not only in form of the radio show but also as a list with the number of votes for each song. That of course only makes sense, when enough people participate...

I have no wish to contribute other than to mention Gene Moles - Burnin' Rubber which has to be one of the most adrenaline fuelled surf tracks ever.

By Request of North Sea Surf Radio I would like to post my favorite 10 Classic Surf Tunes here:
Name: UKAY54
Country: Germany
- Mar Gaya - The Fender IV
- Squad Car - Eddie & the Showmen
- Our Favorite Martian - Bobby Fuller & the Fanatics
- Inertia - The Hustlers
- Bombora - The Original Surfaris
- Yang Bu - Jim Messina & his Jesters
- Casbah - Sandy Nelson
- Banzai Washout - The Catalinas
- Theme From Black Saddle - The Revelairs
- Out of Limits - The Marketts
After making my choice I was quite surprised. I thought: Hey, no Pipeline, no Misirlou, no Wipe Out? Maybe I heard these tunes too often, too many cover versions? I don't know. Of course these are outstanding titles, but I prefer the tunes i posted here.
(Just listening to Frankie & The Pool Boys at The Hangnine FM show on North Sea Surf Radio - always a great show!!! Thanks Mr. Deadman)

Like the fans above, I limited each band to only one entry. I tried not to ignore classics just because they are cliche for most surf music fans.
- Dick Dale and the Del-Tones - "Miserlou"
- The Surfaris - "Wipe Out"
- The Chantays - "Pipeline"
- The Ventures - "Walk Don't Run"
- The Lively Ones - "Surf Rider"
- The Belairs - "Mr. Moto"
- Eddie and the Showmen - "Squad Car"
- The Astronauts - "Baja"
- The Marketts - "Out of Limits"
- Link Wray and the Raymen - "Jack the Ripper"

5.) Dick Dale - A Run for Life
6.) The Pyramids - Penetration

I agree - "Black Sand Beach" went on and off my list almost arbitrarily. Great tune. I made my list not so much on what are my favorites, but on what I view as the top ten classics in terms of influence, penetration, etc., and I appreciate that one could easily argue that some are not "surf".

I had a hard time making my list... There are a ton of first wave songs I like, but I know them from covers done in the first wave. I went to go listen to a bunch of the first wave recordings and they kind of sucked... or had saxophone. The Truant, Bikini Drag(which I kind of like with Sax), and so on...

There've got to be many candidates here. But many of them might be too obscure to be people's favorites. Lots of terrific songs, though.

I am glad to see The Lonely Surfer by Jack Nitzche is getting some love here. That is one of the greatest surf songs of all time. It does not get the respect it deserves. Glad it made some of your lists.
Later,

This is too difficult for me to do. And it keeps changing as well. I would also say my favorite songs are in the instrumental rather than surf category, which may make some discount mine.

I was discussing exactly this conundrum with someone else earlier today. But I'll give a go tomorrow and see what I come up with. Much like my favorites of the modern surf-revival, some of my choices may be less obvious, but they'll also be the songs I keep coming back to over and over.
