Welcome to sg101, VindictiveAlarmClock! Glad you're here.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Hello Everybody! My name is Ed and I live the the south suburbs of Chicago, IL. Not a big surf scene around here but I manage to find the music I love online. I joined a few days ago and I am loving everything I'm reading.

I used to own a Squire VMS Surf Green Strat but just bough a Seafoam Green Eastwood Surfcaster (see my avi to the left).

I fell in love with surf music about 15 years ago when I randomly bought a Rhino Surf compilation CD and was blown away by what I heard. Would love to form a surf band someday but finding musicians in my area that are into it is very tough but I'll keep looking.

This place seems like a great place to keep up on all things surf and potentially connect with some great folks.

Welcome aboard! You might be surprised at who you might find out there. There are a handful of bands in your area (or relatively close). Check out the Surf Band Map

A warm welcome to VindictiveAlarmClock and EdRadakovitz!
Information, players, maybe your next band mates...
you'll find it all here and the folks who contribute are fine human beings.

Cheers,
Jeff

Hi- I'm Chris from Missouri- A land with NO ocean beaches or surfing, but the Instrumental Surf-Guitar tunes at the Surfguitar101 Podcast converted me immediately. Love 'The Madeira' and MANY of the tunes on the podcast (as well as Lady Reverb). I also love Gibson and Fender guitars, and Marshall and Fender amplifiers, esp. old (or newer-vintage-correct-looking) ones. When you're playing instrumental surf guitar onstage, I believe you should pretend it's 1964- and use PLENTY of reverb... SG101!

Hi SG101,
I'm new to SG101 so by way of introduction, I live in NSW Australia, was born in 1953 and started playing guitar when I was 12 (should be a lot better than I am!). It was the sound of the guitar instrumentals in the 60's that inspired me to start playing - the Surfaris, the Ventures, the Shadows and Australian bands like the Atlantics & the Sunsets. That 60's guitar twang went in one ear, and never came out....... I played in various bands in school and later on in my 20's. Not in a band at present - possibly something for the future though! Never too old, I reckon. Big Grin Aside from music, my other main interest has been electronics - as well having providing me a career path, it has helped me with equipment. Old handwired Fender amps are expensive and hard to get out here, so I have been able to clone a couple of models for my own use - tinkering around with tube amps is sheer enjoyment! More recently I have been involved in design work, and in 2010 I teamed up with Charlie Hall in the UK, and together we worked on a design to replicate the old tape echo units of the 60's. In May 2015, the Hall & Collins Signature Echo unit went in to production. There is a thread in the general section on the unit https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/26139/?page=1#p377404
Looking forward to being a member of SG101.
John

I guess I should have introduced myself here first; oops!

I have visited this site many times over the years, but I joined the other day because I finally bought a Hallmark guitar and wanted to ask a question. That was actually the third in a string of purchases that made me think, hmmm... I'm heading in a direction, aren't I? First was a 1965 Bandmaster piggyback amp; then a reissue outboard Fender Reverb box. Then a Hallmark 59 Custom fell into my hands for cheap.

So guess what I've been watching on YouTube recently...

Welcome John and HiHo!

Welcome guys!

That's quite a gear haul, HiHo! I also have a 65 Bandmaster. Stellar amp!

Hello SG101. I've occasionally checked into this site for the past couple of years, but I finally registered a few days ago. I'm just a fan (not a musician) who used to post on the Cowabunga list, and was able to see some great bands in the 90s, but due to changing times and other interests, I lost touch with others. I am happy to see so many musicians from that time still playing and recording, plus a whole bunch of new artists and bands on the scene. I kind of feel like the prodigal son fan. This site, BTW, has really come along nicely. Helluva job Brian and contributors.

Smile

Welcome to SG101 Josh! Did you post under that name on Cowabunga?

Hey Brian. When I was on Cowabunga, I posted as "Chalkboy" but now that I'm so much older, it didn't seem to fit. That was a cool mail list, but this site is really something special.

Welcome to sg101, John, HiHo, and Josh! Very glad you're here.

I should check this more regularly. Welcome to all, especially those land-locked in atypical surf country. It's what you're playing not where your feet are planted.
