I agree, Jamie. I believe they are on the alternates list. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

Paul Carson with the Atomic Mosquitos had the very same thought as y'all. Emails will be sent. If all else fails, I might just have Phatlynx play a little longer and let the Coffin Daggers start a little earlier. --Crispy |

You won't regret it, Crispy. They exceeded my expectations last month when we played with them. I just spoke with Scott. They are gathering their bearings after todays Boston tragedy. But they will have an answer in a day or two. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

Eddie Katcher posted this just two days ago - it's really good! Check it out: A Tribute to the Penetrators at the Instro Summit 2013 —Ivan |

Update: Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion is go! So nice to get a last-minute band that also fits the timeslot so perfectly. Thanks everybody for the suggestion!
Eddie also wrote an equally nice blurb about the Astronauts Tribute set; I'll be posting that one soon as well. --Crispy |

I know that BTDOAGS are stoked to play. And funny enough, they fit the slot well. But I also think they will please a greater portion of the audience, as their music better toes the line between more traditional instro and the heavier stuff. Necronomikids were a fantastic band. But they were HEAVY in comparison to almost every instro band currently active. Even more, they were the loudest I have heard. I spoke with their drummer a few nights ago and he said that Jon got a nice job and will be moving. They hope to finish the album they have had in the works though. That is a relief. What is sad is that Jon was at the show we played last weekend and I didn't get a chance to speak with him beyond a nod and hello in passing. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We are indeed very excited to play the summit. Excited to just attend! Can't wait, see everybody there. (now to fix the truck that stopped working just in time to make it back from tour last month) — |

Uh-oh! MORE Lineup hijinks: Moonbase has informed me that they can't make it due to some sort of recent domestic issue. (For those wondering, Chad from Moonbase will still be making the trip performing his usual guitar duties with the Mystery Men?). Taking their place will be our local all-star surf lineup, El Mirage. Hopefully that'll be it for the lineup changes this year. Oy! --Crispy |

Awesome! So glad to hear El Mirage made the line-up. Yet another kick-ass NC Surf Band in the mix! — |

Probably too late to post this, but I'm About to head over to WCOM to pimp the Instro Summit on the Licks & Lyrics show with Louise Thompson Bendall. I'm on around 3:15 EST. You can listen online if you find this day too nice to head outside. --Crispy |

Looks like an amazing weekend of surf music! We are going to try to make it down to enjoy the bands. We'd love to perform next year if there are any openings. It has grown quite a bit in the past few years. Can it get any bigger? Jason |

Mike here from the 9th Wave surf band (CT), checking in. We have rooms at The Duke Towers from Friday to Monday morning. Yes, we are planning on taking it all in. Looking forward to catching up with friends, alumni and bands. — |

I'm hoping the weather's nice Summit weekend, not just for the obvious reasons, but also because the Duke Tower motel has an awesome courtyard with a great outdoor pool. --Crispy |

The Instro Summit Lunch Jam! This year I was asked to help-out with the Lunch Jam (LJ), held at The Casbah from 12 noon to 2:30 pm. Open to all, come on down for an impromptu jam, sit in or put together a super combo before the big event that evening. We will be using the Instro Summit backline or bring your amp (for the rumble jam), plus I will be bringing the prize winning (from 2012 SG 101 Convention raffle), Limited Edition SG 101 signature Fender Strat guitar to be used during the jam by anyone on this list. I’ll have a sign-up board to help track the participating bands and combination (historical purposes). I’m hoping that we can get those traveling players with or without a band and any fans coming for the Summit to stretch out and play music, something old, something new or something stolen. Last year at the Southern Rail LJ, some impressive playing and arrangements were born, with the help of DePinto Guitar’s Mike, who let folks test drive a few interesting guitars and bass guitar. Speaking of the Lunch Jam, here's a little bit from last year's jam, featuring the Madeira knocking out a number on them DiPinto Guitars (and a 9th Wave bass!). --Crispy |

Watching Ivan play at the lunch jam last year was amazing. I got to just sit on a sofa in front of him and soak it all in. I am still baffled at how effortless his playing seems. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

Ha! Thanks, Crispy, Noah, and Noel! Though it's funny to me, since when I watch this video the only thing that I can think of is how sloooooowwwww we're playing the song! Usually it's at least 25% faster! I think it was just that the whole thing was so mellow at the lunch jam, so we were also in a very mellow mood and didn't even realize how slowly we were playing it. The lunch jam was a great time, though! Ivan |
