Lyric & Lecture, an Illinois-based educational and musical talent agency and event producer, announces the first annual Third Coast Surf Fest to take place at the Waukegan Harbor & Marina on Saturday, July 9, 2022. This one-day music festival will showcase regional and national bands that perform Surf Rock as well as British Invasion, American Rockabilly and Garage Rock music.
“Over the past couple of years, my production partner Sandra Reese and I have discovered an amazing number of talented musicians who rock out intense surf guitar rhythms and other extremely danceable music that invokes the early 1960s vibe and culture,” says Lynette Foss, founder of Lyric & Lecture. “We wanted to showcase the vast talent that the Midwest’s Third Coast has to offer while helping the environment in some way. Producing a surf music festival benefiting Alliance for the Great Lakes seemed like the perfect way to do that.”
“The Alliance for the Great Lakes is thrilled to be a beneficiary of the Third Coast Surf Fest 2022. The Great Lakes are our region’s most precious resource and we applaud the fest’s organizers for raising awareness about the need to protect the lakes and celebrating all that we love about them,” said Alliance for the Great Lakes President & CEO Joel Brammeier.
The festival’s venue, Waukegan Harbor & Marina, offers a beautiful lakefront marina that includes a promenade, public park, yacht club, music stage, nearby public beach and slips to accommodate craft of any size. The Marina is owned by the Waukegan, Illinois Port District. Concerts will take place on the stage at Green Town on the Rocks, a venue located within the Harbor property. In addition, the Waukegan Yacht Club is transforming itself into a Tiki Bar with Tiki market and vintage car owners will be able to display their vehicles in the parking lot adjacent to the Yacht Club.

After 2 cancelations due to Covid 19, we finally can announce a new date for Aloha Fest 5! Saturday march 12, 2022! Over the past years Aloha Fest has grown to a steady gathering of surf music fans and it is the biggest indoor (winter) surf festival of Europe!
As always the festival is organized and curated by Aloha Sluts guitar player and concert photographer Arny Raedts (aka ArnyZona). We are lucky to have a lot of support from one of the best concert halls in the Netherlands, for a ‘niche’ genre like surf music. A big thank you to Grenswerk! Like previous editions we have non-stop live music on 2 stages. And we are proud to announce that we can welcome The Tremolo Beer Gut as the headliner this year. Due to popular demand, because Grenswerk concert visitors voted them in to the top 10 of all time greatest live bands (Aloha Fest 2).
So what else is new? Nothing! We still have an on site market, with a record store, thanx to Eddy Lucca (https://surfinsbackagain.shop/). Due to the Covid 19 restrictions we do not know if we can have our regular barbershop and plans for a tattoo parlor and or massage shop are in the closet again
This edition’s line up is (in chronicle order):
Black Django’s (NL, this trio does the Doors version of the Ventures so well, they don’t need a bass player!)
Aloha Sluts (NL, the Dutch answer to Link Wray, only the guitar player is a bit uglier)
The Surfbeat Club (NL & B, traditional reverb drenched surf from a bunch of rocknroll outlaws)
Los Venturas (B, gogo…. Ehm gogo…. Yes…. gogo and shake your booty!)
Thee Andrew Surfers (B, legendary trio that is half of Fifty Foot Combo. They don’t play that much any more, so this is some kind of reunion)
The Tremelo Beer Gut (DK, doing an exclusive stop over show on their way to SXSW, Austin. Only that Yebo can visit his favorite wine bar in Venlo on his birthday. Please don’t tell him that Bert, the bar owner, has him on the ‘no entrance’ list! Thanx a lot Martin!)
For new visitors: Venlo is a town on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. There are several airports in less than an hour away (Dusseldorf, Eindhoven, Weeze, Maastricht-Aachen, Bonn-Cologne). The venue Grenswerk, is located in the historic center of Venlo, on the banks of the river Meuse. There are several hotels (Hotel Puur, a small boutique hotel, is the closest and cheapest) in 10 minutes walking distance. Please note that parking in Venlo can be expensive, but most hotels offer free parking spaces. Oh and then there is Sounds Record Store, only a 5 minute walk from the venue. The biggest independent record store in the Netherlands and the favorite of Lorenzo (Surfer Joe) and JonPaul Balak. They have a great little restaurant in the back, with a nice lunch menu too!

Twenty years ago we couldn’t imagine that our little excuse to meet with our surf music friends from around the country would still be happening. We also couldn’t imagine how crazy 2020 would be. Nothing could stop us from celebrating though, so we are doing the festival anyway, but in an online format. Here is the final line-up of the 20th anniversary of Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe, the oldest running surf music festival in the world and the most important one in South America.
There will be 60 bands from 10 different countries and 12 Brazilian states, with exclusive performances ranging from newly recorded material, video clips, quarantine-style videos, historic festival performances and much more.
Reverb Brasil Records also released an online compilation with 59 tracks from bands participating in the festival and a couple of bands important to this history.
Grab your favorite drink, get comfy on your favorite chair in the company of your favorite people and join us this November 7th, 14th and 21st on Youtube. Check our Facebook Event to figure the local times.
About the festival
Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe is the main meeting point of the Brazilian Surf Music Scene, happening annually in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, at A Obra, one of the most important underground venues in Brazil. Throughout its 20 year history, the festival has welcomed over 120 bands and thousands of people.
The festival’s name is a joke about a surf championship in Minas Gerais, a state with no coastline. Belo Horizonte is about 500 km from the nearest beach and every year the festival is called Primeiro Campeonato (First Championship), preceded by the number of the edition. Last year’s edition was the 18th Primeiro Campeonato Mineiro de Surfe.
The festival was first organized through Reverb Brasil, which back then was an association of Brazilian Surf Bands. A Obra kept it alive over the years, with the help of Reverb Brasil, which later became a radio show, a label, a blog... Always spreading the (lack of) words of Brazilian Surf Music.
For 2020, the Royal Aces band is excited to announce that we have once again been scheduled to play at every Golden Super Cruise Car Show, in Golden, Colorado. If any SG101 members are from Colorado, or just traveling through, feel free to stop by! The shows take place on the first Saturday of every month, from May through October, in the big King Sooper's parking lot on South Golden Road, from 3 to 6 pm.
A great way to get 2020 rollin. We have a great show coming at you February 7th at Fox & Goose in Sacramento, CA! It is sure to be a great night of tunes.
OK, it's not Impeachment talk or the World Series, but the Shamen are nonetheless pleased to announce that, weather and fires permitting, their music will be on KQBM, Blue Mountain Radio, 90.7 FM. A special shout out and big thanks to DJ James Fox. If the station doesn't burn down, the Lost Planet Shamen will be making a little surfy noise on Tuesday, November 5th, between 10-12 AM. You can also listen online - https://www.kqbm.org/. Not a major victory, but another step forward in the march to bring reverb to the people!
