Aloha Fest 5

After 2 cancelations due to Covid 19, we finally can announce a new date for Aloha Fest 5! Saturday march 12, 2022! Over the past years Aloha Fest has grown to a steady gathering of surf music fans and it is the biggest indoor (winter) surf festival of Europe!

As always the festival is organized and curated by Aloha Sluts guitar player and concert photographer Arny Raedts (aka ArnyZona). We are lucky to have a lot of support from one of the best concert halls in the Netherlands, for a ‘niche’ genre like surf music. A big thank you to Grenswerk! Like previous editions we have non-stop live music on 2 stages. And we are proud to announce that we can welcome The Tremolo Beer Gut as the headliner this year. Due to popular demand, because Grenswerk concert visitors voted them in to the top 10 of all time greatest live bands (Aloha Fest 2).

So what else is new? Nothing! We still have an on site market, with a record store, thanx to Eddy Lucca (https://surfinsbackagain.shop/). Due to the Covid 19 restrictions we do not know if we can have our regular barbershop and plans for a tattoo parlor and or massage shop are in the closet again Wink

This edition’s line up is (in chronicle order):
Black Django’s (NL, this trio does the Doors version of the Ventures so well, they don’t need a bass player!)
Aloha Sluts (NL, the Dutch answer to Link Wray, only the guitar player is a bit uglier)
The Surfbeat Club (NL & B, traditional reverb drenched surf from a bunch of rocknroll outlaws)
Los Venturas (B, gogo…. Ehm gogo…. Yes…. gogo and shake your booty!)
Thee Andrew Surfers (B, legendary trio that is half of Fifty Foot Combo. They don’t play that much any more, so this is some kind of reunion)
The Tremelo Beer Gut (DK, doing an exclusive stop over show on their way to SXSW, Austin. Only that Yebo can visit his favorite wine bar in Venlo on his birthday. Please don’t tell him that Bert, the bar owner, has him on the ‘no entrance’ list! Thanx a lot Martin!)

For new visitors: Venlo is a town on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. There are several airports in less than an hour away (Dusseldorf, Eindhoven, Weeze, Maastricht-Aachen, Bonn-Cologne). The venue Grenswerk, is located in the historic center of Venlo, on the banks of the river Meuse. There are several hotels (Hotel Puur, a small boutique hotel, is the closest and cheapest) in 10 minutes walking distance. Please note that parking in Venlo can be expensive, but most hotels offer free parking spaces. Oh and then there is Sounds Record Store, only a 5 minute walk from the venue. The biggest independent record store in the Netherlands and the favorite of Lorenzo (Surfer Joe) and JonPaul Balak. They have a great little restaurant in the back, with a nice lunch menu too!

Aloha Fest 4 - an evening of European surf music

The fourth edition! So we can call it almost a tradition to start of the new year at Grenswerk in Venlo, the Netherlands. Here you can see 6 of the best surf bands Europe has to offer, on 2 stages. Also a market, with tiki-stuff, clothing, CD's and vinyl, a barbershop and lots more!

image

LINE UP:

Bradipos IV (Napoli, I)
Italy’s oldest surfband has been one of Europes best and spectacular surf bands since 23 years! And one of the nicest guys to work with. They had to cancel their show at Aloha Fest 3, but promised to be back for edition 4! And here they are, come and meet your new best friends!

Bang! Mustang (Leipzig, D)
One of the most dynamic trio’s in the international surfscene. Bang! Mustang are from Leipzig, Germany, but when you listen to their two albums, you hear South-American rhythms, melodic surf punk and more. These guys know how to work an audience and afterwards you will need some new dance shoes!

Arno de Cea & The Clockwork Wizards (Bordeaux, F)
Remember Man or Astroman? These French guys will help you forget them. Brutal surf they call it them selves, but there are some great tunes too! They have a stage show that will leave everybody breathless, with acrobatic guitar antics and some ADHD on speed dance moves!

Humanga Danga (Gent, B)
The Belgium city of Gent is rivaling California as the hotspot of original surfmusic. Bands like Fifty Foot Combo and, Akulas already played Grenswerk. Newcomers Humanga Danga have stirted up the international surfscene with their debut album. Even on Surfguitar101, the biggest surfforum on the net, they are celebrated as the new best thing happening to surfmusic!

Aloha Sluts (Venlo, NL)
After 5 years, the previous version and most successful version of Aloha Sluts broke up. But now it is time for version 4.0! An all Venlo line up, with some new songs and updated versions of old Aloha Sluts classics. Yep, they are still playing ‘Gaywatch’, a top 3 hit on the Australian Rock Charts for 12 weeks, with 3 weeks at number one!

Martini Hulks (Bonn, D)
Traditional we start the evening with a German band that combines surfmusic with ‘50s nightclub music. They combine reverb guitars with raunchy saxophones. The ideal music to start drinking to get in the mood… but don’t drink too much, you want to dance to the next 5 bands too!

Saturday february 8th 2020 - Grenswerk, Peperstraat 10, Venlo
Open: 20:00
Tickets: 14,- (pre-sale), 17,50 (door)

Aloha Fest 3 - Jan 12 - Venlo, NL

The third edition is a fact! Same beautifull venue as the previous edition; the Grenswerk concert hall in Venlo, Netherlands. Again we have two stages in the hall, so be prepared for an non-stop surf assault!

image

Tickets are 12 euros pre-sale and 14 euros at the door. Pre-sale link will be posted here soon!
There is also a tiki-market in the venue with art, fashion, records and even an old fashioned barbershop.
The same afternoon (around 15:00 hrs) we have a pre-party at Sounds Recordstore (the best & biggest recordstore of the Netherlands - just ask Lorenzo or JonPaul) with in-store gigs by Aloha Sluts and the Terrorsaurs.

Venlo is only a 40 minute drive from the airports of Dusseldorf, Eindhoven and a little bit longer from Antwerp or Cologne.

This year's line up:

Bradipos IV (I)
Italy’s oldest surfband has been one of Europes best and spectacular surf bands since 22 years! They just released their sixt album Lost Waves (vinyl only).

del-Toros (NL)
Imagine Kyuss playing Dick Dale songs! Stonersurf! It got them a
split single with Californian stonerlegends Fatso Jetson. On their latest album they collaborate with Peter te Bos (Claw Boys Claw) and sax-player Bertus Borgers!

Aloha Sluts (NL)
The hosts of tonight had a very succesfull 2018. Imagine a surf band on festival posters with big names as Descendents, Pennywise, Mummies, Dead Kennedys and more! 666% SURFABILLY! Imagine Link Wray & the Sonics had 3 little sons who started a surf band….

Terrorsaurs (UK)
Back on popular demand! They tore up the Aloha Stage at the
first edition of Aloha Fest and left everybody breathless! Now they are back, with a new double album on the legendary US Wild Records. Swamp surf that will rock your sox off!

Akulas (B)
Grinding organs, guitars drenched in reverb, catchy tunes it seems like a trademark for surf bands from Gent, Belgium. Remember Fifty Foot Combo? Akulas sound like the angry little brother!

Hicadoolas (D)
For the second year in a row, a Berlin band is opening Aloha Fest. A start of a new great tradition? Hicadoolas combine old school surf instrumentals with a female singer. They just released a new EP that got raving (international) reviews!
