Beat Girl

Gear:Kit:Pearl Reference series in Emerald Fade,Pearl rack,Pearl Demon Drive pedals,Tama Iron Cobra hi-hat stand, Sabian & UFiP cymbals.

Honoring the reunion of the Space Cossacks, working on Solaris Stomp. There is a musical-score-only sequence in the classic movie Battle of Britain - no plane noise, no dialogue, just music juxtaposed cinematically against the desperate battle of man and their machines against one another. Solaris Stomp reminds me of a backdrop for an intergalactic version.

Wonderfully accurate movie historically.

I think that score in that scene is by composer William Walton. It's almost ballet-like isn't it?

Yes, on both counts. I'd been studying the air campaigns of that war since a child (and of course building models of everything) and was delighted with the way the movie turned out (which doesn't happen all that often). Powerful piece of music.

Land of the Unknown by the Blue Stingrays.

No specific song but felt the need to do some regular PT today since the right wrist was feeling especially cooperative. This translates to Rhythm with a capital 'R'. So fired up Giant by The Atlantics and Guns Don't Argue by The Penetrators and tipped my hat to folks like Danny Snyder and Patrick O'Connor. Aleve is my friend sometimes but it's fun to strum with tunes like these, along with being worthwhile exercise.

"The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" by Greg Kihn but inspired by BANNED from the Beach. Do any of the guys from BANNED from the Beach post here on SG101?

Celebrating the Modelo Uno by working through some stuff on one of Crazy Aces' latest, Chop & Channel. There is some pinky work there for me; that which does not kill us...

Dick Dale's Banzai Washout and a "Chet Atkins 'ish" version of Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's desire I'm working on.

Re-recording all the drums and other messed up parts of album #2 Ohio Shaped Heart!. Then I'm remixing the whole shabang. Te-di-ous but the sound is worth it. All songs are inspired by the myriad aspects of my home state.

So yeah, instro CONCEPT ALBUM. Maybe half of it could loosely be considered surf. 3 or 4 of them are truly surf and then it diverges quite a bit stylistically.

All made possible by my main man in Hong Kong- Mike and Sharawaji Records. Worship

Thanks to you! There's a lot going on with this one- It's all inspired by surf which has given me a new musical life but funneled through the sights and sounds of the Buckeye State. Many things from my youth, some serious some just a laugh. There's 17-18 songs total depending on whether we do a bonus track which would be the only non-Ohio song. It would be about vacationing away from Ohio. A cover and I'm not saying what it is since I'm not sure it will be included.

THIS version... NOT The Bel Airs' version. For some reason The Challengers' version seems to resonate with me more. Maybe in my own mind The Bel Airs' version just sounds a little too busy. The only problem I'm having so far is that I haven't come up with any ideas for the piano solo... yet.

Still on the Shadows set

but back at it properly.

Genie with the Light Brown Lamp is coming along well

then FBI

Freshwater Surfin'

The Murray Basin
Australia

"Changing Tides" by the Ventures. Heard it for the first time yesterday morning on Pandora. Could hardly believe it was by the Ventures, doesn't sound like them. It's got a nice island vibe to it. Have figured it out already. Going to add it to our setlist at our next practice.
