"Surfs You Right" - Laika (and Astronauts?)

Everybody up!

i've had to put aside learning a new surf tune for a bit since i've got to learn the rhythm parts to about 30 tunes for the group i'm playing with. it's amazing how some seemingly simple songs, aren't. the two i'm working on right now are 'middle of the road' and 'magic man'.

Storm Surf by the Surfaris. Excellent lesson on YouTube.

Either you surf, or you fight.

"El Jaguar" by FrankenEddie for the 101 comp. It is almost ready for conversion to mp3.

Mako Tomato and Eddie Katcher run amuck down in the Boatwerx.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Since it's Elvis's birthday, I've been dancin' to the jailhouse rock

Reverb...... Putting some drip on your hip since 1951

Working on Man of Mystery, couple of fingering positions to work out with the riff and and getting the rythym right for the solo.

I start in the Am barre position at the 5th fret, and work towards the nut. FWIW Goran Tanring does the same sorta thing:

Man of Mystery tab

working on "Axel F" theme with the daughters on piano and guitar...

"Farmer's market girl" by ear. That solo is tough.

IMO.

TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO.

There are two things people from my generation whistle, the X-Files theme and the Jurassic Park theme.

I did this one yesterday: Коробейники

You will probably recognize it.

Lazy Girls Hangout, by Bambi Molesters. Love the feel of this tune.

Intro to Moby Grape's "8:05". Not surf or instro, but they had great interplay between 3 guitars.

I'm almost afraid to tell you because the last couple of times I did, something went horribly wrong and I couldn't play to get ready. But here goes.

A Ventures medley. Rumble, Harlem Nocturn, Sealed With a Kiss, Lawrence of Arabia, In My Life, Paperback Writer, I Feel Fine and Back in the U.S.S.R. The Ventures recorded all these tunes. Really! The Beatles tunes are from a Japan-only Beatles record The Ventures recently released. Ironic, isn't it?

And Phantom Mustang by The Intoxicators, Experiment in Terror (again) and will soon be starting on the Beach Boys' early hot rod and surf songs.

I still don't play well, but I'm picking up tunes much quicker now and playing them better sooner as long as they're slow. My speed isn't as limited on rhythm guitar. But I'm still just a guy who can play some tunes on a guitar. I'm not yet a guitar player.

Having more fun than ever! And I owe everyone here who's ever offered an encouraging word a hearty thank you.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Thanks. I hope so. I debated including this, but I've agreed (Help!) to play rhythm guitar on a couple of tunes by Mojito in his long distance collaboration recording project. They're really good tunes and ... I think this is even scarier than playing Ventures tunes in front of Bob Spalding.

Have you got some way of recording yourself at home with a drum machine (like garbageband)? This can help you with really drilling home the parts you want to record so you get used to playing precisely without mistakes. When you record you invariably make a few mistakes and have to re-take the tracks several times to get it sounding good.
