Thanks, Ariel, Jeff and Emilio!

Nope... Resistance was futile...

Sparkly sisters!

Oh wow! Yes, indeed!

After a couple of years, I'm still so exited about this one, don't even think of another guitar!

Yes Until one shows up and forces itself on you!

So, now that you have it, how can you un-have it? Especially since you already fell in love.

Indeed! Well put!

Still, something massive would need to happen for the world to accept your signature guitar in any other than Fiesta Red!

Smile Well, the band has been vetoing the fiesta red look for the past 18 months, sadly! They're dead-set on blue guitars! So, I have THAT hurdle to overcome first.... Smile

I smell some underlying Hank Vs. Dick shenanigans.

Big Grin Yes

Either way, lesson learned here, IMO:
When you try to fight temptation head-on and declare it, this is what happens Wink . It comes back at you, tenfold.
One has to be sneaky, just casually whoosh it away. Don't look back, there's was nothing there, nothing at all. No sparkle at all.

Laughing Again, very well put!

Also, never make false promises to oneself, because when one breaks it, it breaks big. Always allow yourself an out (- like in the "10 Samurai"!)

Well, the point of a public promise like that was to make sure it was binding! But even that proved to be no match for that gorgeous gold sparkle.... Smile

It's O.K. to buy things... Smile

Thank you for your enabling! Wink

BTW, check out how close my new guitar is to how The Beast looked back in '82, with the original mint-green pickguard - it was just about 20 years old at that point, as is mine now! (And DD was exactly the same age I am now - weird!)

OK, it's important to understand that if you don't have some fun with these recovery attempts you're simply existing to attend one forum post after another, so why bother? I say GO for the RED Strat, or the Black one, or the Gold one. Look at the Shads farewell tour and Hank's choice of shirt-color - fodder for a "one of these is different" posters. Go for the RED (just as long as it's not with a red Star Trek shirt, you know what happens to that guy).

Woah! I go away for a few days, and Mr. Gearaholics Anonymous has gone Custom Shop on us. Sparkly "hey everyone, look at my guitar" finish, with some fancy figuring on the neck no less. Oh, who am I kidding, I would have been weak too... OF COURSE you had to buy it! That is so freaking cool... pays tribute to The King while being unique and perfect for you in it's own right. I know, we're a shitty support group that just enables each other, HAHA. Beautiful guitar, enjoy it!

I've already started planning my next acquisition; they say the glimmer in the brain occurs long before the actual fall. Technically it's going to be more along the lines of a trade (up) for something that suits my fingers better, e.g., a change in neck profile & radius. Dang, that sounds like rationalizing doesn't it.

Here's my full American Strat family:

image

'12 American Standard in Jade Green Metallic; '09 '62 AVRI in Ice Blue Metallic; '12 '65 AVRI in Dakota Red; '93 '60 Custom Shop in Gold Sparkle; '87 Strat Plus in Fiesta Red; '97 '62 AVRI in Shoreline Gold; '87 '62 AVRI in Black. They each have their own personality, feel and sound, and I love playing all of them. Some of them I've had for a long time, and they really are my babies by now, can't imagine ever parting with them. And so the stable grows....

Yes yes, each guitar has got it`s own personality.
If you could take three of them, which three would you take? And why?
If you can not decide I would do this for you. Or let the forum decide.

I have got 31 guitars these days… what can I say? They each have their own personality, feel and sound, and I love playing all of them. Some of them I've had for a long time, and they really are my babies by now, can't imagine ever parting with them. I hope the stable don`t grows…

I've tried hard to stop but I just got a fine Volkswagen Garagemaster for $75, now I have a guitar that matches my car, and it has Fahrvergnügen.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Haha!!!
I once had a few guitars that matched with my shoes (chucks converse with the same color like the guitars, sonic blue, fiesta red, gold, etc…)
so this is a dangerous gearoholic thinking to get the matching guitars for the shoes!!!

Doug, have fun! Brummm brummm!!!

Twang cheers!

It seems that you are ready now for couple of Jazzmasters Smile

Whohoooo - what a nice (or dangerous ? Confused and worrying?) twist in this nice thread Laughing

But I must admit, I like it - congrats Ivan - really a beautiful Strat u got there - I also like the fiesta red, green and blue one a lot !

And I must admit - I was weak too ! Purchased a nice used Cajon the other day. But I guess I already mentioned, that I'm in danger here. Well... Whatever ...

But I think about sellin' my first one (and gettin' another? There r 2 models, I'm really interested in) Ahhhhhh Uh-Oh

No progress in sellin' stuff since my last post (only small things, which do not really count).

Yesterday I thought: If I have to keep three guitars from my 31 guitars I know which three I would keep: My burgundy mist Jazzmaster which I played on the USA tour in august, my 64 Jaguar in sonic blue (w. matching head) and my new Fender Supersonic in sunfire orange flake equipped with Jazzmaster pickups and self designed pickguard.>

Ralf - I feel the need to veto here !!!

There is one guitar I definately would put on 1st place on my wish list of "What guitar you want Ralf Kilauea to play for you?"

I happened to listen to you playin' quite a few times Wink and the guitar, which in my opinion suits you perfect and you sound oh so good is....
....

...

...

Eastwood .... (ok - I couldn't resist Wink )

Now seriously - the guitar, which in my opinion definately needs to stay with you, is the orange Yamaha 'flyin' banana "die Bohne" SG-2c !!!! It's unique (modified in a gr8 way), great colour, sounding fantastic, it's extraordinary and abnormaly cool !

I would take the burden and take care for your sonic blue jag Big Grin !

Now I'll go to bed - it helps, cause - you can't purchase gear, when you're sleepin' !!! Smile

Ivan, the stable will indeed have to grow as there are no indigenous North American Maple necks in your Strat'O'heard

I'm way behind on answering these.... Oops...

Smile Indeed! I've said this before: I love the look and feel of Jazzmasters - but just not as much as the Stratocasters. Every time I was playing my JM, I found myself thinking, "I wish I was playing a Strat". Smile So, now I am! And anyway, I seemed to just make a JM sound like a Strat - there are a bunch of Cossacks songs recorded with a JM, and my sound is really not much different there than it is on the songs where I used a Strat. So, what's the point?

EJ wrote:

Well, of course they're ALL maple necks, right? It's just that they all have rosewood fretboards - which is the way it should be! Even Leo Fender by '59 realized the error of his early ways and switched ALL his guitars to rosewood fretboards! Who am I to argue with Leo? ;)

HallmarkSweptWinger wrote:

That's actually fairly easy. I've had my fiesta red Strat for nearly 25 years, and it's been with me through pretty much my entire musical life, and it's never let me down. It's just a wonderful, wonderful guitar that I love to play to this day. It just feels like home whenever I pick it up. The Dakota Red '65 AVRI is also deeply special to me, being a gift from the SG101 community, and I would NEVER part with it. In addition, it's also just an incredible sounding and playing instrument. And finally, the new gold sparkle Custom Shop Strat is a guitar I feel blessed to have, again in terms of the feel and sound, but of course also the looks, which are stunning. Those would be the three.

I have to say that my '09 ice blue metallic '62 Strat is a remarkably good guitar, too. The neck handles my 12-gauge strings with ease, no bowing, and it's just a pleasure to play. On the other hand, my '97 shoreline gold '62 AVRI is a complete PITA. The original neck was bad so I was able to get a replacement in '99, just two years into the life of the guitar - and THAT neck one has always been problematic, too! It doesn't handle 12s very well. I love the looks of it, and even the feel of it, but I'm getting really fed up with constantly having to adjust the neck. I think I may downgrade it to 10s soon, and stop using it for surf.

I have got 31 guitars these days…

I'm continuing my downsizing this weekend by letting go of two guitars that I love.......but never use, my Harmony Rocket and my Supro Belmont.
It totally makes sense to let these go, but it's still a bit of a struggle.
Anyway I can get a "that a boy", pat on the back from my fellow addicts to help ease me through the transition?
BTW, where's the free coffee?

But you're doing the right thing even if that Harmony is gorgeous!

I'm just going to ignore that Cherry Red Rocket with all my might. It's been floating on top of my bucket list since I was a kid. And knowing Jeff, it's ready to play. But if I try to buy it, there's no turning back. Sorry Jeff, but I have other plans. Know what I mean?
