Bandmaster #1 is done.

Gave it a bit of TLC, replaced the two 470 ohm resistors and the output tubes, modified the bias circuit to a blackface adjustable type and brought the new tubes up to about 35 milliamps or so using the new 4 tube bias meter that I recently added to the work bench that I can never find anything on. It is back to barking now (and how!).

Next project.... the '65 Bassman head needs some love.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Putting a new stetsbar whammy on my Epiphone baritone black widow. All I have to do now is tune it up some. Merry Christmas!

I found this very nice ipad app "e-scope 3in1".
Oscilloscope, tone generator and FFT, perfect for testing a stompbox prototype Smile

Well, by God, someone found a reason I might have to have an iPad thingy.
Bjorn, what's the rest of the interface consist of?

Hi,

I wouldnt say its a reason to buy an iPad. For the price of an iPad you can get much better equipment. But its the best piece of software of this type that I have found. You can even use it on an IPhone:
http://e-skett.co.jp/help/e-scope

There is even instruction for how to build probes:
http://e-skett.co.jp/help/how-to-make-external-cable

But of course there are a few big drawbacks:
- No dc measurement, only audio range.
- Quite unreliable accuracy.
- A risk for damaging the audio port in the iPad.

I use my Apogee Jam interface which I believe got a high quality audio input. It works great for simple tasks Smile

I wish somebody could design a real probe-interface for iPad!

Thanks for the feedback (no pun intended).

I hope you're working on what I think you're working on...
Cool

Yes, he is Wink

The Hicadoolas

I jumped into the pickup winding world & wound my first set of pickups recently. Haven't tried them yet because I gotta wrap up the finish on my double bound tele body. The resistance is good & they look the part, so I think they'll sound alright. From now on, I will be installing my own pickups in my builds as standard. Up next is a set of Jazzmaster pickups. Parts are en route.....

Neck pickup on the winder....

Neck pickup wax-potted with cover attached. Ready to go!.....

Underside of neck pickup. Third wire added for a 4-way switch. 7.65k should be good....

Underside of bridge pickup. 7.0k is fine......

The completed bridge pickup. Wax-potted & ready to install....

You might call your guitar build "The Hoja" in keeping with your Ottoman theme.

Squink Out!

Just finished winding a set of Jazzmaster pickups. I'll see if they sound any good later today.....

Bob,
I think it's cool you've ventured into making your own pickups.

Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff! I have been wanting to offer my own pickups as standard in my builds for awhile now. The hardest part was making the winder. After the winder is functioning & counting, it's off to the races.
I installed the JM pickups in my VMJM today & I was pleasantly surprised. They sound real good to me. Just in time for band practice tomorrow. Wink

Congrats! Those should sound pretty cool. I looked back in my notes at what those "Duncan-Designed" pickups were (which I ditched) and these should be a big improvment for anyone's VMJM. The orig D-D VMJM bridge pickup is way too hot for a guitar where the money tone is both on.
Cool

I measured the Squier bridge p/u & it was 11.6k! Way too hot. With my new pickups, the middle position sounds glorious. It's what was missing all along.

Yep, was 11.6K here too - Uff-da! - which is why they were ditched. (There was a local punker who was all over 'em.)

Work started on a Harmony H44 Deluxe.

Should look something like this:

And last week we helped our nephew to put his freshly painted and modified Squire together. Came out a great guitar!

Very cool. I love H44's and H88's.
Looks like you're using poplar?
If so that's a good sounding wood that was used for the originals.
What will you use for pickups?
If you're looking for more of the original sound I have a suggestion

Cheers,
Jeff
