I tried your link again but I still am unable to load the files. If you like you may download them to the demo section of sg101 as well.

I'm playing it now. Fast, confident, brash & not the same old song. I haven't heard a heavier version that's still surf since Dick Dale & Stevie Ray Vaughan played it. I like it a lot.

All I had to do to get it to play was open the file that appears after clicking on the link.

Well it could be that my attempt was made on a mobile device. Still it would be nice to have in our music library here on sg101.

Like most surf recordings from the 80's(or most 80's recordings in general), I absolutely hate the homogonized production on the DD/SRV version of Pipeline. I will say that it fit quite well with Dick's hair during the Back to the Beach movie.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

I was referring to the aggressive performances.

Hi there, I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My name is Ron I live in central Florida just outside of Ocala. I just wanted to tell you guys that this is the greatest website for guitar players. I moved down here from up north a few years ago and was trying to get something going doing rockabilly and surf. After a few times of trying to put a band together I pretty much have stopped wasting my time. Down in this area it is nothing but classic rock cover bands, not very many musicians in tune to rockabilly and surf. But hey, it is what it is. I am not much of a singer so I decided just to concentrate my playing on instrunmentals and surf.
I have always been into The Ventures, Duane Eddy,Dick Dale and surf in general.I have just recently discovered Los Straitjackets.
This website has been a great resource for me in discovering the history and what's currently going on in surf music. I have been checking out everything on it just about every day for the last couple of months.

Thanks again

Welcome to SG101, Ron! I think there are some of us near you. I hope your post flushes them out for you.

Ron, you might try this. http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/21504/ Doesn't seem too far from you. Is it?

Largo is about an hour and a half away from me. I am kind of up here in the sticks but thanks for the info. I talked to a bass player about a week ago who seemed interested about playing some surf so we'll see.
Thanks again

Welcome Ron!

Haha, holy smoke! What a bad and sad decade for surfmusic and haircuts.
Dick Dale/SRV Pipeline

Isn't this Dale's only Grammy nomination?

And it could have been a lot worse. Just saw this pic of Adam Ant and Rick James from 1981.

Elefant,

I enjoyed your version of Pipeline. The energy makes it stand out. Nice touch.

Talk to you later,
Norm

Ron,
Welcome to our little corner of cyber space. If you want to share your interest in surf or learn more about it, you are in the right place. We have a great bunch of guys and gals here. Every one from absolute beginners to old hacks (like myself) to some of the best surf guitarists on the planet.

Ocala? Used to be a quiet little town back when my grandfather moved there. He lived there for 30 years. I went to grad school at Gainesville and drove over a couple times to look at the horse farms.

I really like your 57 Chevy. Hard to tell from the photo. Is it Tropical Turquoise and Ivory?

Talk to you later,
Norm

Hi, I'm Ross. The "GhostHost". I was hoping to have my username as TheHatboxGhost, but I guess that name was taken. My username reflects my love for The Haunted Mansion. I have been teaching myself to play guitar for about three and a half years, and I have a basic understanding of music theory now, but I mostly use minor scales and chords. The Ghastly Ones got me into Surf, and I love to play Surf, but I am also trying to re-learn the guitar since I learned Music Theory on piano, and would also like to understand surf-guitar better.

Winter's razor at the base of my spine. I don't mind being divinely aligned.

Welcome aboard Ross!
