I ordered the Mustang through Sam Ash a few weeks ago and got the $50 discount.. I know that GC/Musician's Fiend exempts basically everything from these promos. I got a discount in my local GC when I bought my Taylor, although Taylor didn't qualify. I guess I've bought so much there that they're looser with the rules with me

Several things:

When i ordered mine, which may be the case in yours... is that a SPECIAL ORDER is exempt from guitar center's promos. And because it was a specail order, i had to pay infull upfront, nonrefundable they said.

Also.. the salesman ordered it DIRECTLY from Fender outside of the Guitar Center computer system. So calling the customer service number won't help, they can't track the order.

Since they are an authorized Fender dealer, they can order ANYTHING that Fender makes. Regardless if it's on their website or in their stores.

All that being said, if they order some obscure part for your amp, they are not required to offer any special incentive on it.

HOWEVER, I was standing right in Guitar Center and the had the little table tent promo triangle with the "Sonic Boom" offer right there next to the cash register. I would surmmise that ALL Guitar Centers are honoring it.

When you pick up the guitar, point to the sign and demand it. it clearly says Squier Vintage Modified line...

+1. Mine's being delivered on Friday.

You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing.

I'm curious. Has there been a feeding frenzy like this before?

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Good question. Is it because we're just so interested in these models? Strat and strat copies are a dime a dozen. Les Pauls and SGs less so. Did the Epiphone fans go crazy on the Wilshire?

Best thing Squier ever did, along with the duo sonic.

$300 Jag/Jazz, that speaks for itself. It has been 7 years since they were $500 new and those were very limited in shit colors. Fast forward 7 years and the cheapest Jag/Jazz was $700(right?, CP). $300 is a very very affordable price point. That is why people are going nuts over them.

When the black tops, ghost, pawn shops, other than their looks and personalities they're just like the original. If they are selling all the. AVRI for $1200, why sell 3 for $400 each. But they Dido it

I'm perfectly happy with my J. Mascis Jazz, but the frenzy is getting under my skin and I might have to go buy another (Squier) Jazz or a Jag. How can I justify this?

How's your digestion now?

For me this was (almost) a no brainer. I have never had a Jaguar, I play at home by myself and I can justify $300 to scratch a 50 year old itch. My only internal torture was over the color. My intent is to use and enjoy this guitar "as is" I'm not going to upgrade pickups, bridge, nut, etc. At the end of the day it'll still be a Squier. Other than string replacement and a basic setup, which Jake pointed out is something every offset body owner must learn to do, I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of this guitar. The sound samples, like one so1om posted today have convinced me this thing will play and sound sorta like a Jag of old right outta the box and that's good enough for me.

When i heard these were coming, I sold my motorcycle racing leathers, a extra scooter i had..etc I HAD to be ready.

When i was a kid, these guitars were $$. then in the 80s, i started to have a couple $, and you couldn't find them.. at least not in a 16 year old size world in the suburbs of chicago. Then i started making $, but then the prices jumped to vintage.. so it was always a carrot dangling just ahead of me.

and yeah.. all the "near" guitars that they were coming out with. close but no cigar. and useless or not.. I dig all the settings and sounds. So if it doesn't have those things, it's not a Jag, Jazz, or Stang.

I can forgo the mute, as much as i'd liek to have one. and the trem-lok. will it be the one i play in my band? i don't know.. it mostly "needs" humbuckers.

so i am right/there with you, Stokemon!

Hi Stokemon. Your reply almost made me bring up a new topic, but I'll continue with this one. I have "real" Fenders and Gibsons from the 50's, 60's and 70's. We couldn't stand Peavey nor Squier when they were first introduced. We wouldn't even give them a chance, or even try them out. We felt they didn't measure up and would laugh at them, make fun of them etc. Now I'm much older but still a bit of a name brand freak. I still have my "real" stuff, but I bought the J. Mascis Squier Jazz because I couldn't deny it's quality. As a matter of fact, I bought a Squier bass for 40 bucks, and it's also great. Whoops, I'm rambling.
Here's my question: How many of you will play your Squiers for the public (including musicians) to see especially if you have (or don't)a "real" Fender Jag, Jazz or Mustang at home? I play my Squier proudly - although the name brand thing - is still lurking a little.

How's your digestion now?

funny. I hve had the good fortune to be able to buy and keep my guitars over the years. and i do feel for those who have hd to part with theirs.

I play in bars around chicago.. Does the old 60 melody maker or 62 ES-330 come out? or the 60s gretschs? I'm way too worried about them being damaged or stolen. The neck popped off the Gretsch Rally once, i don't want to have it fixed again.

I bought NEW 1983 Squier strat when they came out.. at that new store in the area called guitar center. Still have it. Added an 89 Jazz Bass and a Tele affinity too. so this was a no brainer for me.

people will say i'm crazy, but a couple years ago i bought "new as-is" Epi SG off ebay for $93. the G-400. It was to be the workhorse go to for playing out so the "good" stuff can stay at home. And this will be the LAST guitar i ever sell. it is THAT good. I stopped looking at the label. did it sound good? did it fit my hands? well all right then! I can channel my inner david lindley!

Great post Surfbones, and the question you pose has been rattling in my head ever since I hit "BUY" on the Squier Jag.

If I ever play in a band again, the instrument I use will be my call, and mine alone. It will be my responsibility to make sure it sounds up to snuff. What it says on the headstock, where it was made, what I paid for it, what pickups it has, etc. etc. is nobody's biz. The guitar I chose to play will be the one that I feel comfortable with and believe best enhances my contribution to the overall performance of the group. Headstock snobs be damned!

I have 2 AVRI Jazzmasters, 1 custom built Knoll Jazzmaster, 1 "Frankenmaster" which is my favorite, 2 Burns Marvin Signature Models, 2 Fender 50's reissue Strats, 2 Burns Marquees (sweet guitars) etc. So if I choose to play a Squier, nobody better call me on it.

You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing.

I don't think so. I don't recall any. The ease of communication via the internet and the amount of information there, stokes the flames for this.

The closest I can recall was the anticipation folks had after FMIC bought Fender from CBS. Guys I knew where hopeful that Fender would start putting out great guitars again after the CBS era. Big difference was back then, the gossip trickled out slowly. There was no internet to speed up access to information.

Talk to you later,
Norm

Right on! I agree with that statement 100 percent.

I started playing in 57. Had almost all my gear stolen in the 80s. About 6 years ago, a fire wiped out most of the gear I had at the time. Right now I am playing a parts-caster I build and the Squier Jaguar through a Champion 600 reissue and a Fender Reverb unit. I play them because I like them and they work well here in the house. I do have a 69 Fender Dual Showman Reverb with a 2x15 cab loaded with JBLs, a 72 Twin Reverb, a circa 78 Marshall Lead combo. a Traynor Custom Valve 40, s 79 Strat, a 86 Fender Japan Strat, a 83 AVRI 57 Strat, a 85 AVRI 57 Strat (first month of production at Corona), a 86 AVRI 57 Strat, a 96 American Standard Strat, a 03 American Standard Strat, a few MIM Standard Strats, and a 06 AVRI Jazzmaster. I play what I like and what works for the circumstances. Be damned what folks think of the logo on the headstock.

I'm with so1om (except for the humbucker thing). While I'm sure all the recent inexpensive evolutions of the offset guitar are useful to someone, to me they just aren't complete. To me, a Jaguar has to have the correct pickups, and all the circuits, etc. The humbucker versions just aren't close enough for me, let alone those awful (IMO) pawn shop thingys (I really can't see how any reasonable set of modifications would result in those).

So for me, it's a chance to have a 'real' Jaguar without the price. That's why it interests me. Does kinda bug me that there's no lock or mute, but that's easy enough to deal with if I had to.

Heck, my wife has said that she feels like she's been skimping on my CHristmas and birthday gifts for the last couple years. Doesn't bother me, of course, I'd rather spend money on the children. But it would be nice...

And no, I won't be playing it on stage. Or rather, I'll be playing it on stage as much as every other instrument I own. Wink

Well, I hope they're a better product than Fender's Classic Player stuff. I was pretty jazzed about them at the advertised price point, but after demoing two of them I left thinking man these things are dogs??

I suspect for the $400 price tag you'll have a decent pruduct that may require spending a few more $$$ on it to get it right.

I think Fender had the right idea with the Classic Player guitars, they just need better QC and wood.

METEOR IV on reverbnation

let me clarify because i see where i created the confusion. The band i'm in, it's music that needs humbuckers.. so i use the Epi Sg. I don't know how well the Jaguar would work in the sound of the band (only one guitar, bass, drums..).

So raito and i are aligned.. if it says JAGUAR, it should have the things making it a JAGUAR -at least the key elements, the circuits and proper pickups. The mute and trem-lok are debatable. it'll sound like a jag without those things. it won't sound like a jag with different p/u's.

Las Barrcudas.. We're buying these for $299 or less (mine was $275). Proper setup (the same cost to you regardless of guitar) is moot -you have to do that anyway. Mine was 99% right out of the box. Just had to adjust the outer string heights, but intonation and action, perfect for me. Neck after a week, doesn't need any adjustment. check them out for sure..
