sXm.. have you done this with the Jag bridge? it's worth it!!
Ok! right here in the middle of this thread is the info about adjusting the bridge. maybe this will help your situation if you haven't tried these before:

Joeybsyc, did you swap necks on the Mascis JM? Does a normal JM neck fit? Also, is it color matched? I thought the Mascis JM had an aged creamy white finish. Is the headstock olympic white?
I thought of getting a Mascis JM, then replacing the pups and neck and stuff, But then I would be paying almost as much as a classic player for a modified squier. But of course, I'd end up modifying the classic player to the point that I could've bought an AVRI, which I would probably keep stock.
Hmmm...
No, i didn't change necks... I painted the headstock of the original neck... It IS a creamy vintage white, and the paint cost me a bunch to have custom mixed in the exact shade as the body. As for a standard JM neck fitting, I know they do...so you could put any USA neck on it you wanted without issue, but I gotta tell ya, the J. Mascis neck is insanely good. Nice fat profile, wide (but not too tall) frets, super top notch satin finish, and vintage style tuners. I wish it had the traditional heel adjustment for the truss rod simply for the aesthetics of it, but i cannot fault this neck in ANY way... a great, great, neck.
I just finished up modifying a Sonic Blue VMJM and while it's a great guitar, with a more "traditional" bridge and tremolo placement, the neck of the Mascis blows it away for overall feel. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the VM neck, its great too, but much thinner than the Mascis, and has a glossy finish that lacks the smoothness and silky feel of the Mascis.

Ha.. I wish. No, I don't build them to sell...they're mine. By the time I add up all the extras, paint, pickguards, tremolos, new covers, knobs, mutes and bridge covers, case, etc. Then spend the time and effort to get them all adjusted and set up properly and playing like killers i have about twice the initial cost invested in them. Not very marketable... but they do look nice and are awesome players once I get 'em done! I do it for fun, and to satisfy my own GAS.
Oh, Someone asked about the case earlier... I buy Gator cases, they are 99.99 and are the perfect size for offsets, Jags or JMs. A good quality "factory" style case for quite a bit less than a G&G.

joeybsyc, this has likely been asked and answered on here, so please bear with me. The thing that puts me off about the Mascis Squier Jazzmaster is that anodized guard. I have a new unused tort guard for an AVRI Jazzmaster and am wondering if it's a clean fit or if some tailoring is required. Also, how would you compare the build quality of the Mascis to the new Squier Vintage Modified offsets.
Thanks!

I hated that gold guard too! Actually the AVRI guard will go directly on.. every hole matches perfectly. As for quality, while I have NO complaints at all about the VM series JMs or Jaguars, I'd put the Mascis a step above them. The neck is chunky, the finish on the back is satin and is smooth as a baby's butt... the frets are bigger, but are not overly tall... I gotta be honest, I LOVE the neck on my Mascis. Some purists will bag on the fact the tremolo is moved a bit closer to the bridge than on a vintage JM, and others will hate on the TOM bridge itself... but it works great. I'd have to say from a playability standpoint I like the Mascis the best of all 3 I own. (VM Jag, VM Jazzmaster, and J Mascis Jazzmaster)

That is a really good looking guitar, Joey. Man... I think you just sold me on the Mascis.
I have a local guitar tech here. Maybe he can mix up that paint for me. The matched headstock looks SUPER nice. An dfor sure gotta change that gnarly looking pick guard. Yuck! I saw someone on youtube put a black one on there and it looked really cool. Your white on white looks pretty good too. Wow... decisions decisions...
Oh... where did you get that decal?

does that include special orders thru GC (et al) direct thru fender? or are you waiting for an actual guitar you ordered?

I don't know if its considered a direct order. I was just told they have been receiving only partial shipments and the next one scheduled is Oct 10. That one should complete all the back orders for these models, IF its complete.

hmm.. maybe see if they will do a direct order for you. my guy at GC went on a computer, NOT the GC system, and ordered direct from Fender as a "special order".

FWIW I ordered a surf green Jag from GC on July 17th. I canceled my order recently after they missed two ship dates. Got tired of having almost $300 tied up in something I had no clue when I was getting.

There are at least 4 of these on e-Bay now in oly white, candy apple red and surf green. I assume the are immediately available. One (white) is through Leitz Music who has a very good rep.

I bought it from Andertons (http://www.andertons.co.uk/). Great service, quick delivery (shipped by UPS). I ended up paying ca 2700,- NOK, including shipping and taxes.
