HBISM Founder/Director at Large Natalie Kotsch & HBISM supporter, guitar legend, Dick Dale who are valiantly fighting cancer. Congratulations we are proud of both of you!

Hey everyone, Robbie Allen and the Sundogs will be at the Brookdale Inn on October 4th. Robbie Allen has had the privilege of jamming with Nokie Edwards and George Tomsco in the past. The Sundogs' drummer, Gary Christensien is a backup drummer for Dick Dale. Ironically, they first met at the Brookdale Inn when Dick did a show there. My friend Guy Moore (of the WAIF 88.3 Rockin' and Surfin' Show, Saturday nites from 6 to 8 pm)and my wife Beth and I (Kokopelli Stages) would like to invite you to CINCINNATI SURF EXPLOSION 2. This will take place on Friday, September 19th on the stage of the beautiful and spacious venue (not a bar) MEMORIAL HALL which is next to MUSIC HALL on Elm Street in Cincinnati, OH.

Not unlike our last production (Cincinnati Surf Explosion 1, held back in May 2008 at the Southgate House) we are going all out to bring the finest talent and a great stage production. We are even having this event recorded by Kurtis Heinrich of One Night on Earth Mobile Recording. We want to video tape it as well. We will be projecting surfing images onto a 12 foot projection hoop with colored lighting while the bands are playing. There will be hula and Polynesian fire dancers. Downstairs there will be a small (with intention to grow) village of tiki artifacts, custom culture and rockabilly stuff along with unusual merchandising and food and drink. Sure you will be able to get a beer as Budweiser Light is one of the SPONSORS along with Cincinnati City Beat free press.

The Wadadli Riders will be coming to California, with their first show at the Hotel Utah next Sunday afternoon. The band is led by Lorenzo Valdambrini, the webmaster behind the site surferjoemusic.com and the organizer of the recent festival in Italy. The rhythm guitarist had to cancel from the tour, but he will be replaced by Los Straitjacket's Daddy-O Grande. The Wadadli's set list will expand to include some Los Straitjackets material, as well as songs from Daddy-O Grande's solo album.

Slacktone has announced 3 new dates on their gig page. One is with Japan's Surf Coasters in El Segundo next month, and two Florida dates! Check it out!

As we reported in this story, the Finnish legends Laika & The Cosmonauts are putting on a final tour and then calling it a day. The North American part of their tour begins in mid-October, and you can check out the dates on their gig page. Note that many of the shows will have amazing supporting acts like Los Straitjackets, Pollo del Mar, and Tiesco del Rey. Keep your eye on the two to-be announced shows in Southern California also. Don't miss your chance to see one of the highest regarded instrumental bands of today!

Japan's #1 surf band The Surf Coasters will be making a brief tour of the West Coast in early September. Their new CD "Outside Break" will be ready in time for the tour.

The Sound of the Surf crew will be present in Italy at the SURFERJOE SUMMER FESTIVAL. The event will be filmed and part of it will go on the movie/documentary with exclusive interviews and more.

The "godfather" of the Sound of the Surf project, John Blair, will also come to release interview and provide more details. Maybe he'll jump onstage too!!!

Promotion of the festival is proceeding pretty well, we hope in a good crowd. Thanks to all of you who decide to spend some holidays in Italy and come to meet us. More exhibitors have been added also, including importers for DiPinto, Mosrite, Danelectro, Eastwood and old Italian brands like Davoli. The backline will be completely provided by M. Casale Bauer and Fender Italy.

Just a heads up about the Surf Guitar 101 Convention. This will be at Suzy's bar and grill in Hermosa Beach, corner of Aviation and Prospect, between Artesia and PCH. Noon to 5 or 7 pm, separate night show is 8 pm to midnight but your are welcome to come at 11 am or so.

1st off its gonna be many things: a swap meet of surf music (cds, lp's, 45s, new/used), and instrument/gear, shirts, posters, hats, etc. If you have surf swag/merch to sell bring it, grab a free table and sell away.
