When I read the name I didn´t figure it to be a name for a surf band.
When I read the label for their debut cd "Reverb or Bust" it became interesting and the name of the cd "Boards and Bikinis" was most promising.
The cd was recorded in Porto - Portugal in May 2011 and released in 2012.
It´s a combination of instrumentals and vocals, some covers and many own songs.
Bikini Drag (Pyramids), Run Mustang Run (own), 10 Waves of Bad Surf (own) and "The Sound of the Surf Guitar (adaption of Dick Dale´s King of the Surf Guitar) are my picks.
Shark Reef and The Haunted Wind can be heard or seen on their homepage:

If you listen carefully you´ll hear licks by The Fendermen, Trashmen etc. The vocals remind me of Walter Egan´s group The Malibooz.
Nice beach rock - pop and surf from Southern Europe!!

This may be old news already, but the crowd funding site GoFundMe.com has a campaign going for The Ventures guitarist Nokie Edwards, who incurred a mountain of hospital costs in Japan.
Check it if you're interested in helping the family of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame surf guitar legend.

Just when you thought they were through, the Marketts just released a new album and the Routers are getting ready to release their second album of the year, entitled "Live At The Hollywood Bowl - The Routers" recorded live in 1963, the quality of the sound isn't that great but then they didn't have the technology that we have today.
Both bands were formed by Mike Gordon and Gordon wrote the Marketts first hit, "Surfer's Stomp" which sold half a million copies. Gordon then wrote "Out Of Limits" which sold over a million copies and earned him his 2nd BMI Award for instrumental of the year.
The Routers also had a smash hit with the hand-clapping instrumental called, "Let's Go" which can still be heard at sports events and used in many movies and television shows. The Marketts "Out of Limits" was used in Pulp Fiction and many other movies.
For more info on the Marketts and Routers, please visit www.imdb.com/name/nm2144366/ and www.imdb.com/name/nm0961654/.

A huge thank-you to HBKahuna for posting this video of an interview with Eddie Bertrand (Belairs, Eddie & The Showmen) by Tiki Tena at KCR radio at Clint Beachwood's show in 2007. This is a fascinating interview with details about the early days of the Belairs and meeting Leo Fender.
We love you Eddie!
