The Beat Tornados have a song in the mentioned Lilyhammer episode, not sure if they portray the bar band.

'out of limits' was playing in a deli in ogden, utah last night as we had dinner. we also heard 'go' by the ventures on a random radio station as i was flipping through stations as we were driving yesterday.
on another note, even though it's not surf, but covered by surf bands, our local high school jazz band played at one of the college bowl games and got 1st place for their rendition of 'caravan'. pretty cool from a small school in the middle of nowhere.

I gave my dentist a bunch of my surf guitar recordings. Every time I go there he has them playing on his office sound system. This included the dreaded root canal visit...

The intro/part of the first verse from "Nokken Surfacing" is played during a high speed car scene, and it works really well.
There's even subtitles for the "whoa-whoa-oh-oh-ohs" in the Turbonegro song used in the same scene.
— That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Haha I love this thread. I'm gonna have surf played at my funeral, which might be unexpected. Along with a bit of Fats Domino.
I'm afraid I can't think of the last time I heard surf in a strange place. There seem to be a few TV adverts here in the uk that use surfey type music. I hate it when adverts hijack good music.
It seems from the last few answers that a lot of unexpected places one hears surf, are food-related, apparently?

We saw (heard) surf on an Arby's commercial last night. they were pluggin'
the King Hawaiian sandwich. not a bad sandwich and with 30 seconds of old style surf.
I hate to say this, but surf is not well known down here. some of the northern Bama bands need to get down here and play. maybe someone local should start a surf band!

just heard on tv what sounded like the Mermen on a commercial about HP computors. on screen was a surfer in a wetsuit, looked like he was in the pacific northwest. 30 seconds later they played the commercial mentioned in my previous post. crazy.

Watched (most of) a really cheesey Mexican rom-com called Instructions Not Included. Turns out the soundtrack is songs from the latest Los Straitjackets album.

Just got back from a Holland America cruise from Seattle to Alaska. Not really a cruise kinda guy but it was a family thing and was actually a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be. Anyway,
The Lido deck (Pool/bar/food/where all the action is) had live music by your typical cover band (the HALcats) for a couple hours each day but when they were not playing they were cranking old school through new school surf tunes on their rather powerful sound system.
I recognized Los Straightjackets and Laika and the cosmonauts and some first wave stuff that I could not place. The whole boat was digging it though from the newly weds to the nearly deads. Seems it is lubricating music for multigenerational passengers to get liquored up on the Lido Deck!

Listening to a classic rock station in my work truck. The DJ was playing Penetration in the background while making announcements. The same guy used to be on a different station (Now defunct) and used to use Pacifica as background music. How can we get this guy promoted to program director?

I was on a date in LA and the restaurant was playing trad mixed with a few garage tunes in the background.
She asked me what every song title was.
