Sweet! I've heard Laika & The Cosmonauts, Los Straitjackets, and Satan's Pilgrims on NPR over the years. Now the Madeira! Woot!

Thanks so much, Noel and Brian! Brian, thanks also for the link you posted - it shows that they also played Undercurrents! It just keeps getting better! Smile

I'm wondering if Dane heard it too and freaked, haha.

Unfortunately, I think Dane's in Mexico for work at the moment, so probably not. No word from him yet this morning. I think he's very busy there. But he usually does listen to that show going to work in the morning, I believe.

If the music director at NPR happens to lurk around here, please introduce yourself, we would love to meet you! (In fact if ANY music director wants recommendations for bumper music, most of the musicians making modern surf music today are on this forum.)

Yes, indeed!!

Thumbs Up

I just heard that on the radio just now (8:30am). Sure made me run into the radio room. Awesome.

Smile Thanks, Doug! I just got an email from a friend in Mountain View, CA (the Bay Area) that he heard it out there, too. It's like a shockwave! Rolling Eyes

I heard it on my way to work at 4:28 am, and just got around to post it, glad you all noticed and posted earlier. I was pumped up for the long day after that.
Congrats Madeira!

not totally unexpected, but.....we're out in the northwest driving around and snowboarding and suddenly our rental car started picking up satellite radio......thank goodness..........and we've been listening to little steven's underground garage. i heard 'flight of the surf guitar' and 'reef ride' by the atlantics and 'do the laika' by laika and the cosmonauts, today. lot's of surf tune clips in the background behind the DJ too, i've heard the coffin daggers and the penetrators and others i can't quite put a finger on.

I heard the Tomorrowmen's Tempori Perendum on NPR News Tuesday during lunch hour. Ferenc is going to get pneumonia.

I just heard it this morning (Wednesday, January 30) after a story on Eating Early in the Day to maximize weight loss. Somebody (else) must really like it.

That's awesome! Cheers

So forget Phil Dirt. Send your new releases straight to NPR. I used to mentally insert the Bambi Molesters into this story or that as theme music. Instrumentals are perfect for the news. Long on mood; short on irrelevant verbiage; full of hooks; very shiny and a la mode.

There's a pub in my town (Limoges, France, 400 km from the nearest beach) that is a quite unexpected place to hear surf music, but you can hear it quite often. It is called the 'Jourdan', mostly known as the 'P'tit J' ("lil' J").

It's the older pub in the town, sitting in a medieval street under a fourteenth century cathedral.
The first time you come inside, you believe you're back to the middle ages : candle lights, a fire burning in a chimney, long tables with benches, strange peoples drinking hypocras (that's spiced wine) and mead...
Medieval, really...

Then, you see the bartender with his old school tatoos, the whiskey bottles that are used as candlesticks, the psychedelics paintings at the wall, and the surfboard hanging from the roof... And you hear the music Big Grin

Really the best pub in town, and the best place to hear surf, rock'n'roll, garage punk, rockabilly and psychedelic music at 1000 km around!

Many years ago when MP3.com was still alive, they had a Muzak type service that you could submit songs to and they would sell them commercially to various businesses as a way to save money from high licensing fees. We submitted a few songs and they said one or two were chosen and picked up by the service...well a a few weeks ago the band guys and I were having lunch in a local Rubio's fish taco restaurant and low and behold our song came on their radio. How fun that was even though we have not seen any of the smaller license fees promised!
