What type of guitar are you planning on playing for the rythem part of endless summer?
When I was practicing for last year I found that if I just used my thumb instead of a pick, while playing I got a cleaner sound on my Jazzmaster. I also found that playing clean without the reverb tank smoothed out the sound also.
The original sound was a non electric hollow body guitar I think. I played my Gretsch 6120 clean and it was close also.
Good luck. I wish I were going to be there.

Joel

We auditioned a possible new bass player last night, so we worked on about half a dozen Nematoads songs.

Squier Deluxe Strat. I don't have a tank, but I've found my favorite tone so far has been with a light dose of 'verb. (Digiverb) Thought about picking up an acoustic simulator pedal & trying that. I know it won't be the same, but might sound ok. Hmmm

Just my opinion: It's important to practice and know your roots, but I don't obsess about sounding exactly like the original recordings. I try to make the song my own, while retaining the "spirit" of the original. Nobody remembers another guitarist who nailed the original sound of a standard played a zillion times, but they will often remember somebody who does something original with the song (whether they like it or not). Have fun!

I'm with ya Bob......except this is one of my favorite songs and I'm a purist. Duh (yes, I have considered taking an acoustic....except I don't haveone)

In reality, I'm really just trying to get my fingering clean. Doesn't do much good for me to worry too much about tone, as I'm going to be playing through someone elses rig. (not to mention my first dip in a real reverb tank)

I just worked up "Mr Moto" ala Chet at

Like we need another version of Moto!

"Hello Girls!"

That was real purty Nokie.
Tonight we're gonna work on Endless Summer and Mr. Moto, in fact we have a bunch to learn. We are playing for the second time with a new drummer, Don Boomer who was the drummer for the Seeds in 1968, I found that out after our first session. He's good!

Thanks for checkin' it out, Storm-t. I'll bet Don has great stories. Ask him about the Melodyland room in Anaheim. I have a live bootleg of them playing in his era there.

"Hello Girls!"

Working on composing a "surf" inspired version of the theme song for the show "Curb Your Enthusiasm", I believe it is entitled "Frolic".

Any one a fan of that show? It is really hilarious, the theme and music for the show is great as well.

I'll ask about that. Don will be at the convention and joining us on Endless Summer I hope. We played it last night without a rhythm guitar, using a sax and a 6-string bass.

Thanks...yeah, I guess ya would call that a crossover. -MT

"Hello Girls!"

I just recently finished this one. Now moving on to this one.
Cuore Matto, because I've been watching all the Surfer Joe Los Twang Marvels videos so obsessively the past couple weeks, something had to give. Laughing
I just discovered Fiesta de Negritos on youtube not too long ago, and I think it's a flawless song. I love it, so why not give it a shot. I've got the intro and first few phrases down... Tricky! Smile

"Warmth of the Sun" by Brian Wilson and Mike Love

I just learned two songs that I never bothered to learn till today. Apache and Perfidia. I'm doing the same thing I did when I learned to play "Mexico". I just can't stop playing it. Working on "The Lonely Bull" now.
