Working out a surf version of the French tune 'Windmills of Your Mind' as covered by Dusty Springfield (hubba). It's in c minor.
Also writing another piece in c m that carries echoes of Bach's "ich ruf' zu dir, Herr Jesu Christu" which features heavily in the sountrack to Tarkovskii's great SF film, "Solaris", though that hit is in f minor.
Really dig sad, ponderous tunes with lots of harmonic tension. Minor 6th chords did NOT originate with Noir! They go back to the XVIIc.

Beautiful tune. Here's Hank's version from his debut solo album in '70 - really love it:

I've never heard that version before. I love the enharmonic changes that yield such a tight, insistent melody. This style of music - the chordal texture+ melody - is very close to my heart.
I'm inspired by Dusty's vocal stylings. Great singers always make me want to play guitar.
A couple years ago I worked out a straight-ahead transcription of Henry Purcell's "Music for Queen Mary's Funeral" originally for horn band (and great for surf guitar- four voices all within easy reach) which W. Carlos adapted to the main title of Kubrick's Clockwork Orange.
Carlos' Switched-On Bach had a big influence on me since early childhood and I've wanted to form a baroque surf band badly for a while now.

In that case she can look down and say 'mission accomplished'. Smile
Fantastic story that one, Knighted as well. (Lady equivalent.)
Haunting song, Windmills. A favorite of my wife due to its continued association with the movie, but I've never associated this song with anyone but Dusty. She's the only image that comes to mind when that song is mentioned.

Really like to hear how your treatment turns out.

I've been trying to write a tune called "Surf Green Bossa Nova Machine".

Basically, I have written a novel and in it there is a fictitious band called The Vauxhall Victors. I have a friend who has a surf green 1970 Vauxhall Victor (a British car pictured below), so thought it would be fun to write a song for the fictitious band and perhaps have my non-fictitious, non-instro band play it. The drummer is the owner of the car.

It's going okay, except for being all Bossa, a little Nova, but little surf!!! It's sounding a bit 1965/66 Burns-era Shadows at the moment.

I was also listening to the Leningrad Symphony by Shostakovich the other day and there are some surfy riffs about 12 to 15 minutes in when the drums are doing their machine-gun artillery impressions. Got me thinking creatively too.

I've been working on Perfidia, but my uncle was right. It is harder than Walk Don't Run, Apache, and Sleepwalk. I have learned the latter two recently. Perfidia is getting me. I practiced it so many times yesterday, but think I had regressed by the end of last night! Also, I may be trying to mix different variations. SHEESH! I love it though!

My first reverb tank was called Victor. It had a badge from a Vauxhall Victor in place of a Fender badge. "Who wants to come and kick Victor?". I think he was more well known than we were - no-one knew our names!

Gotta new song called "The Swaying Junipers of Lebanon". There's a small town in Ohio named Lebanon that has juniper trees much like the ones in the old world Lebanon. So... middle eastern vibe meets bastardized flamenco with a touch of BTO. It's REALLY fun to play and much better than the description I just gave. Anyways...

I love the Middle-Eastern vibe in a song. I even like some Renaissance music. I need to learn some of the surf songs with that vibe for sure.

Acquired a little 5-channel mixer and SM57; a PG57 is inbound for the Champ. Just going to start having some fun exploring mic placement. (But what difference from even the best signal captured by the little TASCAM DR.) Good thing it's not winter or I'd go all hermit & stuff.
Cool

You'll love the Shure SM57. I place mine just slightly off-center of the speaker cone, and flatly (no angle) touching the grill cloth. The playback through the monitors sounds just like the amp does live.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.
