Found it on eBay - there's two volumes. It's all stuff from the Surf Guitars Rumble series, and 99.9% likely to be bootlegs. As far as when it came out, no idea, but it definitely couldn't have been in the last 15 years.

Yes, it's at least 15 years old since I've had my copy for longer than that. Put out by a bootleg label named Surfville which I'm pretty sure later became the German Surf label who was behind the Surf Guitars Rumble CDs. My only complaint regarding the first Battle Of The Surf Guitars LP would be the clueless front cover photo. Lots of great stuff on it music wise.

As for myself, I placed an order for some stuff from France this morning including a Spotnicks CD EP and a CD collection of The Four Shakers.

The Four Shakers "Natacha" on YouTube
I also have the new Thunderchiefs album ordered.

I got the Neptunas' "Let Them Eat Tuna" for Christmas. There are some originals and a number of covers. The playing is much more accomplished and the recording is more professional (less lo-fi) than the prior CD. The booklet is pretty expansive , and is hilarious. Not a five star release, but much better than expected, and a lot of fun.

I bought "Let's Go Shleppin'" by Meshugga Beach Party about an hour ago from iTunes, and am listening at this moment. Astounding! Traditional surf instruments playing songs with a Jewish flavor! Whether they're playing traditional Jewish tunes, I can't say, all I really am familiar with in that aspect is Hava Nagila. Anyway, fantastic album! Give it a go!

Picked up 3 news ones last week:
Secret Samurai - Gun Sho Gun
Surf Coasters - Outside Break
Pollo Del Mar - Live in Japan Town
All good stuff - really good.
I need to find more Surf Coasters material.

I'm not going to say that album sucks, but it's completely unrepresentative of what they did previously as a band.
FWIW there's a really cheap copy of their debut Surf Panic '95 on eBay right now - it's not one of their best, but it does have a few great songs.

Ordered up a fistful the other week. 4 in hand, one in route - probably here today or tomorrow. Definitely influenced by a good bit of the chatter out here, and glad I've payed attention to it.

It may not be representative, but it definitely doesn't suck.
In fact, I'm really enjoying it. My only complaint is that it's too short.
I'm on a quest to find their "Gold" disc.

Snagged a copy of this:
Apart from the title track, great production. That's ... pretty much it, though.
And I'm waiting on these LPs to arrive:

Gave it two spins yesterday. A really cool album! El Ray broadens their sound, and go further 'out', becoming even less trad, but still retaining their signature sound - crunchy guitars with a lot of two-guitar interplay and lots of dissonant riffs and melodies. I seem to hear a fair amount of new-wave/alternative influence this time around, with one track making me think of what the Cure would sound like if they played surf! (It's a great song, damn catchy!) I look forward to getting to know this album better since El Ray's material has always grown on me a lot more with time.
I think this CD will nicely round out my top three for the year, with the Bambis and the Eliminators in the other two slots. (Haven't yet picked up the new Thunderchiefs, but will soon, looking forward to that one.)

Today I found this thrifting the cover is pretty rough but the LP looks really clean.
These I got from the mother in law.
During Christmas I did a road trip to upstate NY and while there she asked if I wanted her box of old records.
I told her sure expecting the 60's norm you know Mama's and Papas, The Turtles, Billy Vaugn, Frankie and Dino and so on.
Well today I opened the box and the first record I see is this
Then I find a couple other Ventures, Guitar Genius and Go-Go.
Diggin a little deeper I find this
and then this
Boy am I glad I took the box

Thanks Sean / DoubleCrown music club! Got this in today's mail:

Getting it's first listen as I type. Really digging the vibe and production. Fun songs that I've heard so far. Needed that after a couple long days on the jay-oh-bee (and it's only Tuesday!)
Update:
After a few more spins, I'm compelled to log an update. Marketed/positioned as 60's Northwest R&R - I think they've nailed it. The playing is quite good, and IMO, the song composition is compelling. While they've achieved a coherent "Album", each of the 10 tracks are unique. They clearly don't just fall back on one or two tricks slightly tweaked and renamed as a new song.
No, it's not surf. No it's not all Instro. But what it is, I think is done really nicely. I don't anticipate being one of those releases I listen to for a few days, shelve, and only hear again by a chance encounter when the ipod gets set to shuffle. I am really digging it as a complete album. Oh, and if the closer "Rick's Drums" doesn't make you want to hit play all over again, you may not have a pulse.

Picked up a few things:
The Astronauts/The Satelliters - _War of the Saucermen _split

Not a huge Satelliters fan but the Astronauts songs are pretty killer. ("Bali Hai," "The Breeze & I," "Pressure," etc.)
The Shadows - To The Fore

Three of their best songs, IMO.
The Switch Trout - Blow Mind! Here are The Trouts

Great instro cover of the Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love ..." but the originals aren't quite as good. Still decent, though.

I really haven't been in the mood for surf music very much for the past month or two, it's just been too damn cold, but I did pick up these two CDs in that period and they've managed to claw their ways into my heart and ultimately leave me quite impressed:
image
These are both really phenomenal CDs! One very trad, one very not, but both very creative, beautifully played and recorded, and - most importantly - chock full of great songs! Both highly recommend!
I'm also slowly getting to know this one, thanks to Brandonio who generously lent me his copy:
A Finnish band clearly owing a huge debt to their countrymen Laika & the Cosmonauts. I'm not sure they quite have L&TC's ingenuity and brilliance with melodies and songs, but I'm giving the album a chance to grow on me. It's definitely chock full of great musicianship, though!
It's so nice to hear good new surf music!
