had a passing thought on my way to work at my 'real job' this morning

suddenly had a flash:

'Man, how cool would it be to hear Carlos Santana play surf guitar?'

{hey if he has, I haven't heard him, so forgive me for not knowing that}

So I waited until I get off work and thought I'd post this topic....

Which NON-SURF guitarist would you just LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear play some rippin' surf?

Curious to hear the responses, expect them to be varied

Kirk Hammet of Metallica,
he did some cool spaghetti inspired stuff on the song "Unforgiven"

and some middle eastern sounding riffs on "wherever I may Roam"

or
Joe Satriani
as Surfing with the Alien album was not surf even though some think it was.

Freddie:

I always thought it had something to do with the Silver Surfer...

I was waiting for Zak to say something along those lines.
Rolling Eyes Wink

a few classic rock guys did decent(not killer) versions of Shadows songs
on the Twang cd.

on the surface I thought that too

just wondered if he had some deeper and allegedly more profound meaning up his sleeve?

yeah maybe it just ends there

thx

Freddie,
I have no Idea what it meant,
but Dp's right it used the Silver Surfer from the comic book for the cover art.

maybe he's calling himself an Alien, as his guitar playing it way out there.

Jimmy Hendrix and Billy Gibbons on guitars with Bootsy Collins on bass and Herbie Hancock on keys and Dusty Watson on drums, of course...

Amen Zak.

I'd love to hear Johnny Marr, Mike Campbell(who did a Ventures thing), Blake Sennett, and Jonny Greenwood(it would be very dissonant)

Maybe that tune has something to do with this:

But seriously.... I'd really like to hear some jazz guys rip it up, like Tal Farlow (thanks Ru for the reminder), Pat Martino, Barney Kessel, or fellas like that -- I'd be really interested to hear those quick fingers drenched in reverb instead of cranking out the warm jazzy tones.

Oh dear lord... Nels Cline!

shame DJANGO REINHARDT ain't still around, huh?

Nels Cline...with Mike Watt on bass and George Hurley on drums? That might be kindof cool! Maybe add one of the Secondmen on Hammond keyboard?

On Sun. Kristena and I went to see the Bonebreak Syncopators.
its a Jazz band where DJ bonebreak from X plays vibes. and Jeremy Wakefield who does the Slide Guitar on Spongebob square pants, TK Smith on Guitar, Deke Dickersons bass guy on Stand up, and Dave Stuckie of the Dave and Deke Combo on Drums.
they were smokin, rippin it up.

but I told Kristena as good as that was I'd love to see them doing mellow
surf tunes as the slide and vibes would make it so nice.
