I'm really surprised most fuzz freaks around here aren't all over the Ashbass. I'm sure the Catalinbread nails the sound as well, but as Ludobag said, it's such a simple, low parts count circuit, that $150 seems a little steep. Then of course there's always the Ennio, made by a forum member, whom we should all be supporting. By the way, I think the write up in the ad is wrong. The only real difference I can discern from my own tests is that the original is slightly fizzier and phased out sounding, in an unperdictable sort of way. The marketing copy does make some bold claims though. I'm with Lodobag and Psychonaut, the original circuit is simple enough, plenty of copies and DIY options are already in the market. I wonder what value it adds, if it's meant to be like the original. And if not - plenty of modified circuits as well. Catalinbread has a good name and do make excellent pedals. Looks like they're cashing in on their surge of popularity, and releasing everything... Nice enclosure. It's plastic, you know. Graphics is better than any of their latest creations. Seems like they can't find a common branding, the designs are all over the place... I do think it's overpriced. OTH, most pedals are. Since I got my Hakko 888 I don't look back... psychonaut Joined: Dec 08, 2007 Posts: 1303	Posted on May 03 2015 11:58 AM Suppossedly there were only 200 germanium Fuzzrites made, so probably the sound most people are used to hearing are the silicone versions that are way more plentiful. One huge drawback with germaniums, and probably why they changed to silicone, is that they're very temperature sensitve and don't work well when they're cold. When I try to use my Maestro Fuzztone in the winter it makes almost no fuzz, but if I heat it up for a few minutes in front of a space heater it sounds great. Somebody told me it's like a Class C design. Input signal turns it on. Bias? Not sure. Top
