Originally I had planned on integrating my new SBR with my current delay (TC Electronics Flashback), and my tuner. The original idea was to sink them both down into the cabinet top and it looked better on paper than it did in real life. After I put the box together I changed my mind as I thought "wow, that's pretty cool." Why cut holes in a perfectly good reverb cabinet? I designed the somewhat flattened and stretched box to look cohesive with our blonde amps and it is tall enough to mount the pan standing up (like Fender's) or lying flat. Currently the tank is mounted upright on four very soft 8-32 dual male thread Lord (anti vibration) mounts. If that doesn't work I can mount it solid, on springs, flat on the bottom or stuffed in a Fender pan bag.

Here are a couple of pix of the work in progress, finished wood box and covered with Tolex.

Surf Bear Reverbs ya'll!

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Not at all what I intended. My point is simply that if you want something to perform above the lowest common denominator you may want to look for something that is seriously meant to be quiet & stable - perhaps from a field other than music. The issue is that they are more expensive than wall-warts, etc., but it's one of those pay once/cry once things.

You want a linear or switching supply?

Mwahahahah - Cool Yes..... we been waitin' to give this a listen.

Ed, THAT is gorgeous; then again, you know your way around blondes.
Cool

If I had one that's what I'd house it in; the very thing.

Thanks Badge!

Ole Eddie "wood-butcher" here. What makes it work is the router. That is just the el-cheapo "sand-ply' that Home Depot carries. Built a lot of amp head and speaker cabinets out of that stuff. Air nailer, TiteBond wood glue. Easy.

We've been trying to have a Tolex party here at the house but several of my good surf music buds have been a bit tardy..............

I'll try to knock out the electronics this weekend.

I don't think it will electrocute me...

Squink Out!

Splash, splash, splash.......... Drip, drip, drip...........

Finished wiring that bad boy up this afternoon and fired it up. Works like a champ.

A few cosmetic tweaks and it will be done. Will post pix,

Thanks Bjorn, great idea and great execution!

More reverb than ever,

Looks great, and I bet it sounds just as good! Nice work, Eddie! Thumbs Up

Ok, ok,

I finally got off my butt and finished the SurfyBear FET. I think it came out really nice and it sounds amazing. I haven't yet been able to get the Surge! boys over for practice, so I haven't used it in the basement "war of the amps" yet, but I think it's going to do just fine.

Several of the ideas that I added to it are: I installed a dual AC outlet on the back of the cabinet. The electrical connections are fully shielded with the steel outlet box and the stainless cover. The unit is wired such that I can plug in both the SBR 12v (Hosa) power supply and my 9v power supply and they are turned on and off by the switch on the control panel. I used a double pole single throw switch to control the outlet and the 120v AC pilot light. I used a 12' AC cord to make it easy to reach a power source on stage. Additionally, as it was turning out so good, I decided that it needed a proper ID badge so I hand carved an aluminum bezel from some polished aluminum sheet I had lying around and attached the Surfy Bear sticker to it and mounted it on the front of the unit.

I ended up (at least for now) using a vintage Gibbs pan that I had lying around and mounted it directly to the front panel. I tried several and this one seemed marginally better than the others.

The Hosa (adjustable voltage/polarity) power supply works fine and the unit is absolutely quiet. No hum issues with the 9v adaptor either as long as I have it rotated correctly (to not interfere) with the Hosa.

This is an outstanding reverb unit and though it isn't a quick build if you are fabbing all the other components, it's a really fun project.

Thanks Bjorn, this thing rocks!

Any questions just yell.

Best (SurfyBear) Reverbs!

Eddie, Congratulations! It's a beauty and it has just the kind of thoughtful design innovations I imagined you would bring to your build. Another stellar product of the Boatwerx! Enjoy!

Thanks Jeff. I had a big time putting it together. Building it is kids' play compared to the work with guitars that you do.

Tim brought his over, and after about one minute of listening to his, I was hooked.

I know you are "Mr. Super-busy," but get to work on yours!

You'll love it. Let me know if I can help.

This thing looks absolutely fantastic! Can't wait to hear it!

Looks great Ed! Looking forward to hearing it.

Cool idea with the power supply!! Cool

Great work Ed, that looks pretty slick.

I have the chassis drilled, the basic box built and the finished/wired guts on their way back from being put together by an amp builder buddy. I have no clue what I'm going to the with the shell yet though. I'd love to do a similar Blonde look, but I'm useless with upholstery. I've recovered one book, that's about it.

Thanks Corey,

I'm sure there are guys out near you from 101 here that could help you out on covering the box. SoniChris in Colorado does spectacular cabinet work and is way closer than I am here in Atlanta.

Shout out for help here on the forum. If all else fails I could cover a cabinet for you. But be forewarned........I am super lousy at grill cloth.

There are some kit companies that can supply a finished cab, and a lot of guys around here get Beaver Bottom to do their cabinets. That is a possibility.

Best of luck!
