We have one more upgrade to perform. It should take about half an hour. I'll do it Wednesday evening around 6 or 7 pm CST. The site will be unavailable in that time. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks Brian for all your hard work. The work being done by the cert provider looks interesting.

It looks like they go into an open beta program the first week in December. I didn't want to wait that long. But I can always come back to them once they get up and running.

The one remaining problem area for going secure is the "submit news" feature. Users can still hot-link to photos hosted on non-secure sites there. So I've been thinking about revamping the news application:
- Make it accept Markdown input just like the forums. So now I don't have to support, and users don't have to learn, two different ways to submit content to SG101.
- Have the image upload and hot-linking abilities in "submit news" just like when creating a new forum post / topic.
- Instead of using the "comments" system for news stories, a forum thread will automatically be created for each news story. The story can be discussed in the forums, which will give greater visibility to the news stories.

New news system as described above is now live.
Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it.

Happy Thanksgiving Brian! And, appropriately enough on this traditional holiday, thanks so much for all you do for SG101! You, your creation and your continuing hard work are most appreciated!

Thanks guys.
Just a heads up, I'll be taking the site down shortly for some more work. It will probably be intermittently available for the next few hours.

So I've been wanting to do this for a few years. I've been thinking about how to do it for at least 1.5 years. And I started working on it seriously last January or so. Sorry it took so long!
If you see your browser complain about any SG101 pages that aren't secure, or have mixed content, please send me a link to the page as soon as you can. Thanks!

Thanks for checking on that Darren!
BTW, I went with SSLMate for my certificate. They have a a command-line tool for buying & installing certificates and suggests the current best-practice SSL settings which gave us that "A" rating, above.
I'm finding a few mixed-content issues and fixing them. It looks like a small number of users have included non-secure images in their signatures and profiles. Once I determine how many users have done this I'll decide what to do. I'll probably just remove the images if the number is small.
