Separating all the S’s is difficult. If it was a general list of guitar instrumentals I could ace that.

  1. Fathoms – “Overboard”
  2. Atlantics – “Flight Of The Surf Guitar”
  3. Counterpoint – “Counter-Feet”
  4. Torquays – “Milagro Del Mar”
  5. Mach IV – “Astro Boy”
  6. Penetrators – “Midnight Run”
  7. Cruncher – “The Rebel”
  8. Vara-Tones – “Surf Blaster”
  9. Surfin’ Robots – “Chemical Beach” (Yeah, I think it’s surf)
  10. Jon & The Nightriders – “Thunder Over Rincon”
  11. Bambi Molesters-Final Wave For The Day (just in case one above does not qualify)

Also, Junior Brown - “Surf Medley” would have been number 2 but it is a medley and technically not a single song. Always trying to make something simple complicated.

Cool topic! For what it's worth, here's my eclectic mix.....

Pollo del Mar - A Flash Of Green
The Atlantics - Bombora
Dick Dale - Miserlou
The Belairs - Mr Moto
The Madeira - "Sandstorm"
The Atlantics - Saturday Night
The Ventures - Hawaii Five-0
Frankie & The Pool Boys - Ewa on the Beach
The Penetrators- Checkpoint Echo
The Ghastly Ones - Robot Atomico

We made somebody's list?
Wow, I can sincerely say I'm amazed and honored.
We've not been around that long compared to a lot (most) of the "modern" bands and there are so, so many really good ones.....
My day has been made!
Now back to working on my list.............

Just in case somebody needs another track to make it ten (as if!): So far "Twitchin'" by the Torquays hasn't been mentioned. It's a shame... Help

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

Noel touched on this with his list for revival bands. Frankly, I know to many personally to trust my own judgement. I also have noticed a tendency to try to separate the 90's revival and that that started building heavy in the mid 00's... None-the-less, I feel there is A LOT of great music being made today...some more inspired than others, but great either way.

I had to edit my list because of a rule violation. Sorry. I forgot 2013 releases aren't included. The year isn't over!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

It was really hard to narrow it to 10 tracks

  1. Los Straitjackets - Isn't love grand?
  2. The Bambi Molesters - Theme from slaying beauty
  3. Messer Chups - Dead down comedy
  4. Langhorns - Tierra del fuego
  5. Bradipos IV - Titoli (a fistful of dollars)
  6. Los Straitjackets - Dipinto twist
  7. Los Straitjackets - Cantina (electric)
  8. The Hellbenders - Siboney
  9. Langhorns - The vice of killing
  10. The Blue Stingrays - Goldfinger

Well Noah,
If this whole list idea proves to be a success we can do a 1st revival list, a 90´s list and a 00´s list next year. I love lists Smile

It is no biggy. It just seems the landscape of the early to mid 90's revival and that of today are largely a separate thing. Even more, the current revival doesn't seem to have come close to an apex yet.

This should earn me some gear talk. Big Grin Keep in mind that these aren't necessarily what I would consider the best surf songs. Rather, these are my favorites... The ones that get me in trouble for humming in class, that get stuck in my head all day long.

I don't quite get the difference you make here... What other criteria could there be? Wink

Well Simon, I think you are hitting the nail on the head.
I think the Top 101 should be a reflection of the most popular surf music tracks among the listeners today. We are not trying to gather historical information by documenting the most important records in the history of surf music here. That has been done. This list is purely about taste in my opinion.

Revival? did something die? Gosh here's me thinking it was all new and the party had just begun.

Now if I had been truly honest, there would be about nine songs from "Into the Blue Sparkle", along with "Bells of St. Kahuna".

Big Grin

IMO.
