@Noel, thank you very much

Greetings from the Land of the Long Wet Cloud

Long time lurker. I've found so many killer records and bands from reading these posts over the years. Time to go legit and post here. I live in Michigan, I took a good three and some year break to focus on skateboarding.
It should have been long enough break to start over and hopefully leave some of the lazy guitar playing habits behind. Hopefully I'll get it together and play better. I learned a lot about repetition excercises skateboarding that should translate into better discipline than I've had playing in the past. Playing alone made me lazy and skip difficult passages in the past.
I'm a big fan of a lot of people that post here, some aren't even in bands. Thanks for posting. Keep obsessing!

Welcome. Great to have another surfer of the concrete!

Welcome to sg101, MajorKong! Very glad you're here.

Not sure if anybody will see this but I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. My name's Rodrigo, soCal transplant living in the Canary Islands for 14 years. I've liked surf music for years, I saw Man or Astro-Man,the Bomboras and the Trashwomenin the 90s but it wasn't until this summer that something went click and I found myself obsessing really hard.

So I got an AVRI Jazzmaster in LA last August and I've put together a list of songs to learn. I'm feeling super inspired but over here on Tenerife Im just not finding any cats that want to jam.
So SurfGuitar101 feels really vital to me, it's cool that this community exists. I'm learning so much about gear and the current generation of bands.
One last thing, it's weird how I discovered the SG101, on Facebook I saw a flyer for the SurfGuitar101 convention in Torrance but it was the same day as my newborn son's family meet and greet party.
I had Walk don't Run on repeat in my head while I was back in San Bernardino and FB's algorithm posted the convention in my feed, I didn't make it to Torrance but I found the website and these forums. Serendipity likes surf rock~

Welcome to all the new members. There's no better place for instro surf lovers. Players, fans, writers. It's the meeting place for all. Smile

Welcome to SG101, damn glad to meet you!

I have a small connection to your current home. My landlord and his wife were killed in the Tenerif crash in 1977. It was their dream vacation. Some things stay with you.

Happy Sunsets!

Hey! great to hear from you all and stoked to be here. Hey Stoopy, Berdoo is in the house! But I got to be honest, I actually grew up in Riverside, my mom just remarried and moved to Forest Falls. But she grew up way up off of Waterman. I hadn't been back for 3 years man I forgot how beautiful those San Bernardino mountains are. Hey i was reading on Wikipedia that The Tornadoes were from San Berdoo.

Welcome to SG101 Rodrigo!
You're in the right place. There are some incredibly talented and knowledgeable people here who are also considerate and generous in sharing their music, techniques and ideas.

Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff! So far I've been having fun just reading the forums. For sure there's masses of good info about e v e r y t h i n g! Happy to be here!

Not sure what happened to my reply to Tahitijack, I was sorry to read that. You're the first person I've met who knew people in that crash. I'm 44 so I hadn't heard about it till I moved here. Very tragic

Ahhhh the great Inland Empire!!! You're 100% right about the San Gabriel mountains, and Mount San Bernardino and San Gorgonio (hiked to the top of that one years ago). One of the most beautiful places on earth, at least on days when the wind pushes the smog away. Laughing

Some really great bands from the Riverside area - also notably, Jon & the Nightriders, which if you aren't familiar with them, you will be soon if you hang around here. A great "second wave" band to start listening to for cool surf tunes since they were "instrumental" in the revival of surf back in the 80's... if you are looking to build your library, go buy the J&tN CD "Live at the Whiskey" now while you can, it's in one of the posts around here by forming member John Blair, it rocks!

Woohooo!
