Hi All,

I was on here many years ago. Then I moved overseas for a few years and put the guitar down for several more. Picked it back up ago and am super stoked to be playing again. That's me to the left.

Tom

Belated Welcome to Tom. We need more reverb! Cool

Hey,
I'm Joe, and I'm a guitaraholic. Been playing longer than I care to divulge and should be much better than I am, but what I lack in talent I make up for in gear. I'm a single dad with a 14 year old son, who is also guitar afflicted.
Spent 12 years in beautiful San Diego and acquired a love of surf guitar there. Never did any surfing other than boogeyboarding, though. Was more into riding the trails in East County back then. But, dang, do I miss the ocean!
Most of my playing has been in the blues/'muricana style, but I'm gravitating more to surf lately. I've lurked here before, looking stuff up. Time to join!

Welcome aboard El Hodado! Enjoy the cheese curds! There are some exceptional and occasionally well beyond exceptional players on this site, but they put up with me too... so they gotta let you in! Grab a seat, pop the mini-umbrella and your glass will soon be filled! Somebody just went out for ice, so were good!

Welcome Joe! Have you seen The Exotics from Milwaukee? One of the finest surf bands in the Midwest or anywhere really.

Hey Brian,

Haven't seen The Exotics, but I have a CD and I bought a Telecaster from the bass player a couple years ago (since sold). Hope to see them sometime. The sounds I'm most into now are The Bambi Molesters (and The Strange),the Vara Tones and Satans Pilgrims.

Hi Guys. I have been here awhile and posted a bit. I have to say the people on here are brilliant and I have gotten fantastic input into surf music and music in general. A very generous bunch of people.

I have played a wide range of music and instruments over the past 30 years from jazz to bluegrass, rock and country on my main instruments guitar bass and saxes. But also worked on mandolin and banjo.
I have gotten heavily into jazz in recent years and been out playing with different groups, mainly on sax and fretless bass. This past year I started back on guitar applying this jazz stuff.

As I did so and got out to play I decided to start revisiting my love of instrumental guitar in country, blues and surf styles. I always loved surf stuff (especially the early snd obscure stuff) as well as bands like the Shadows and Ventures. But not their commercial stuff more their early stuff.
My dream would be to have a band focused on early instrumental music covering guitar snd sax instrumentals. Especially lesser known stuff. Maybe also piano/organ as my wife plays those.

I have played bass in bands, in mainly a jazz context, professionally but want to get these other instruments up to scratch. I have written my own instrumental stuff in the past and plan to do more in incoming years as I improve.

I work full time as a cartoonist and live in Brisbane Australia where there is a busy music scene in jazz, roots, rock, country and blues music. My wife sings and writes music and plays piano/keyboard as well so we may end up doing some Booker T if I can convince her to hand the hammond sound... Cool

I am a fanatical listener to music having 100's of records and CD's of lots of obscure stuff.

I not only love learning and playing but researching and hunting out all the info, background and obscure tunes by musicians, and genres, so have listened to a wide range of music, styles and genres. I enjoy bluegrass banjo, free or bebop jazz, country swing, hard (Kotzen,Satriani, Johnson or Via)or classic rock alongside classical guitar or mandolin. But always with roots to it and with soul.

Enough rambling. That's me and thanks for having me on board. Very inspiring bunch of people.

(Written late at night so apologies for many words,)

Hi Phil, Thanks for posting an introduction. Glad to have you on the site. I've always been into comics and cartoons, so having a professional cartoonist on board is super cool.

Was it the blue agave telecaster with the bigsby? I wish that I still had that one.
