Sound of The Surf: Upcoming Surf Music Documentary

"Sound of the Surf" is the first feature documentary that tells the true story of Surf Music. With author and musician John Blair, Director Thomas Duncan spent over three years researching and filming. The film explores the early 60s when venues like the Rendezvous Ballroom, Harmony Park Ballroom, Revelaire Club, and Retail Clerk's Hall dominated the Southern California music scene. But it didn't stop there. Blair went beyond the rumored demise of Surf in the late 70s when his band Jon and the Nightriders re-ignited the Surf Music phenomenon in the middle of the Los Angeles punk rock scene.

Surf Music is still very much alive and well today. The musical form has spread across the globe, represented by thousands of bands from nearly every country. "Sound of The Surf" includes live performances by the bands who best show the diversity and innovation that Surf Music continues to develop. The film includes appearances by The Eliminators, Surfaris, Slacktone, The Madeira, Surf Coasters, Meshugga Beach Party, The Bitch Boys, The Barbwires, Laika and the Cosmonauts, Wadadli Riders, Los Straightjackets, and more.

An Unforgettable Laugh - The Man Behind Wipeout's Intro

Sacramento News & Review recently ran an article on Dale Smallin, the manager of The Surfaris who provided the unforgettable intro-laugh to "Wipeout".

"The fast-paced day-to-day of musician Dale Smallin, who recorded the wild cackle at the intro of the classic Surfari’s hit ‘Wipe Out,’ now is a slow-paced life in downtown Sacramento."

Buy A Double Crown CD And We’ll Send $4 To Haiti For Earthquake Relief

My wife and I were talking about the earthquake in Haiti and decided we wanted to send a donation to help the people there during what is sure to be a long recovery process. I thought that maybe instead of just sending “x” amount of dollars, I’d tie it in with the record label. So from now through the end of January, we’ll donate $4.00 for every full-length Double Crown CD purchased through the Double Crown Records website. This includes any of the following releases:

Surfin' Guitars Instrumental Surf Bands of the 60's 3rd edition

My name is Robert J. Dalley, I am the author of 'Surfin' Guitars' Instrumental Surf Bands of the Sixties.  The first edition was in 1988 self-publish.  2nd edition was published by Popular Culture Ink in Hardback.   I am currently working on the 3rd edition which will include more bands, updates/corrections and color.  I am reaching out to all the bands who appeared in the first two edition to contact me so I can catch up on any additional information, discographies and of course color photos, handbills, fliers, record labels, business cards etc.   Some of the new bands I am looking at are the Trademarks, New Dimensions, Surf Teens, Rhythm Kings, Teenbeats, Velvetones, Manuel & the Renegades, Fender IV, Dave & the Customs and more.  I have seen some of the threads here about my book and appreciate the comments.   I think now is a good time to get it out again as there are a lot of people who would like to have it without paying through the nose to get it.  Any help appreciate, suggestions appreciated etc.     Please give me a jingle.
