Hypersonic Secret is less a one-man band, and more a collection of shifting participants anchored by Wes Fleming. Based in Richmond, Virginia, the band is focused on recording projects of various length, all tied to sci-fi themes and taking on influences from all phases of the surf scene as well as classical, pop, rock and even jazz music. You're as likely to hear Queen-esque guitar harmonies as you are to hear classic drippy surf tones. Hypersonic Secret is part of the Boneyard Records family.
I Fantomatici play instro music since 2002. They come from Vicenza, in the north-east of Italy. ââ¬ÅFantomaticiââ¬Â in Italian means ââ¬Åthat maybe donââ¬â¢t really existââ¬Â. But I assure they exist, and mix in their compositions surf, beat, rockabilly, easy listening, Italian B movies soundtracks, but also punk and lo-fi. Always with an original, peculiar style. The music reminds of seasides, exotic atmospheres, alien worlds, Italian futurism, spaghetti-western lands, mysterious women. They are young, and sometimes donââ¬â¢t know what they do. But they always do it.
With two lead guitarists meshing different styles, the Insanitizers are the Certs of Surf Music. Conrad plays with a style between Nokie and Dick Dale, and Michael combines classical rock with the touch of the Shadows' Hank Marvin. Ralf pounds bass guitar, and Big Wave Don Wenke uses aircraft mechanic skills on percussion. The Insanitizers were featured in Pipeline Magazine #85 Spring, 2011, with an enthusiastic review of their "Whimsical Surf" 17-song CD. Located in the Portland, Oregon/ Vancouver, Washington area, the band rarely travels.
The Insect Surfers play dual guitar-fueled instrumental rock for tomorrow - today! The 50's and 60's stylings of such artists as Link Wray and Dick Dale are filtered through psychedelia, punk rock and soundtrack themes to produce a unique, invigorating and danceable blend. "Jetstream propulsion, dual lead twang", "The Clash meets the Ventures", "PsychedelicRangers", "Traditional yet progressive", are all taken from reviewers' descriptions.
