I just scored big! I picked up Link Wray's "The King

on Ace for $7.95 sealed, and The Tornados Play Telstar
and Other great Hits" for $5.95. Rasputin's Record Stores

It will if you actually get them. Rasputin's has a habit of listing stuff that they don't have.

I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with Rasputins. Sad I walked
out of the store in Campbell with these items in hand. Very Happy I've never
ordered from them on line. I find tons of killer Twisted Evil deals when I
stop in to their various stores in the Bay Area, a fair amount
of surf and instrumental, but you gotta hunt through a lot of
garbage. Rolling Eyes

I picked up the Apemen's "Surfvival of de Onbeschofste," plus I just ordered both volumes of the Atlantics' CBS recordings.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

there is a terrific link wray cd available on amazon, called 'they're outta here' says archie',
see
http://www.amazon.com/Theyre-Outta-Here-Says-Archie/dp/B0002RUAWE/sr=1-4/qid=1167988758/ref=sr_1_4/102-8159668-4517734?ie=UTF8&s=music
...it's a long-shelved link album from 1958 that was recently re-discovered, cadence record president archie bleyer had put out 'rumble' ,but basically didn't like link's music enough to release the whole album...
one of my fave 'musical moments in history is when link turns on the vibrato for the last verse of 'rumble' as it fades out. with this record you get to hear the whole vibrato's verse BEFORE it fades! ahh, life's simple pleasures. much of the cd's material is not new, they re-recorded almost identical takes shortly after, but there is enough unheard stuff to make it a worthwhile purchase. my fave are the 2 psychotic-guitared versions of 'walking with link'!!!

Its really hard to find this type of music anywhere but the internet where I live... But my most recent purchase that I did find in stores was like... The Ventures boxset I believe... its quite good. Very Happy

Just picked up:
Crimson Ghost - Some Kinda Hits (should have grabbed one when we played with them)

Man or Astro - Is It? - Born of Woman... Re-Create by Outer Space

Much to my sadness and dismay, Lou's Records in Encinitas, Ca. Has let their selection of surf degrade to about 100 discs Confused

Selling Out with the Astroglides. It took a while to find, but I got it from bompstore.com for a good price ($15).

Lost Treasures! Rarities From the Vaults of Del-Fi

In the years just prior to the British Invasion, the L.A.-based Del-Fi label was apparently willing to take a chance on almost anything, if the 22 rarities on this CD are any guide. A mixture of very rare singles and unissued material, there ain't no hits to be found here, although bongo player Preston Epps did once have a big hit, "Bongo Rock," for another label. Mostly these are gutsy instrumentals in the R&B, surf, and twist styles, or really strange novelties, the kind from which even Dr. Demento might shy away. If that sounds like a tall order to fill, check out Bob Ridgley's "The Way Out Mummy," the Bedwells' "Karate," or Yo Yo Hashi's "Yo Yo's Pad," the last of which breaks up standard energetic three-chord instrumental vamps with Asian dialog straight out of your basic Hong Kong exploitation movie--real hitbound stuff, to be sure. Then there's the non-LP B-side by exotica weirdo Eden Ahbez, an instrumental with wacked-out and (for circa 1960) adventurous phasing effects. There are also extremely rare pre-fame appearances by Love's Arthur Lee (as part of the American Four, who offer a sub-Booker T. & the MG's instrumental) and two of the Walker Brothers (who play on the Moongooners' raunchy instrumental, "Moongoon Twist"). These might have been throwaway sessions, but the resulting CD, though certainly geared to a narrow market, isn't a throwaway at all. It's a cool and occasionally glorious reminder of the days when rock & roll indies let the musicians blast away in search of that left-field hit, conventional pop standards of taste and song construction be damned.

It's supposed to be Richie Podolor. I don't have the LP and it's a bit hard to tell by the smaller CD cover but the person looks to be a slightly older man with glasses reading a newspaper. At the time, Gary Usher was around 25.

So after a long period of just getting a surf CD sporadically here and there, I did a big post-holiday surf spending spree. Here goes:

Blue Hawaiians: Live at the Lava Lounge 2
The Retroliners: "Surf Avenue" and "Subway Surfing"
Estrume'n'tal: Neander'n'tal
The Phantom Surfers: And Dick Dale
The Beat Tornados: Scandinavian Interlude
50 Foot Combo: The Monstrophonic Sound Live at Ernesto's
The Razorblades: The Dark Side of the Beach
Dr. Frankenstein: Crime Scenes and Murder Songs
The All-Nighters: "Dance 'til Dawn" and "Drink the Night"
The Spotnicks: 2-disc Best of CD

Plus, not really surf, but close enough:
The Hexxers: "Freaks with the Savage Beat" and "Buried Alive"

My credit card feels warm just listing all those. I also pre-ordered my Man or Astro-Man? DVD

Aloha Screwdriver - Lunar Wobble CD
The Nebulas - Euphorion LP / CD
Supertubos - The Fourth Drive CD
Continental Magazine - Issue #37 w/17 Song CD

The last couple CDs I bought are by the Vara-Tones, including "Jetty Subject ot High Surf." I don't have the full story on them, but I think they were a band way back and fairly recently reformed.

A couple of my favorite surf/instrumental compilations over the years have been "Attack of the New Killer Surf Guitars" and "Beyond the Beach."

I know Gary Ushers youngest sons. They both live in my town. Dehmian knows a lot about his dads career. Next time I see him, I'll try to remember to ask him about the Super Stocks cover.

Twisted Evil > Angel

I got the Surf Coasters' "Intruder" CD single and Howling Guitar's "XXXX."
