Warren, that disc ROCKS!!!! I can't count the times that has been the "mood music" in the Ratmobile while we were en route to shows, and on tour.
"Water... water.... water 'ma gonna do? Somebody ran off with my camel!!!"
It's completely retarded, and I mean that in the best possible way. I just ordered Volume 2.

I don't have Vol. 2, but let me know what you think. I've heard mixed reviews of the sequel.

I was just going to say that you also need volume 2. Although I don't think it comes near volume 1, I would still definitely recommend it to anyone who digs the first one.

Cool--thanks for the heads up on that. Seeing "Camel Walk" on the tracklist pretty much sold me by itself, but if it's even half as cool as Vol. 1 it'll have been well worth it.

When I first got these (I have both) years ago, I tried listening and thought it got boring quick (being that most songs are in the same structure, kinda like 90% of Strumming Mental), then last year I put it on as background music for a rum drinking get-together - Bingo!
Perfect match - as the traditional exotica is usally too mellow to keep people up for long...
I havn't been buying a lot of cds lately, but I did (finaly) get Davie Allen Blue's Theme and Cycle-Delic Sounds (both Sundazed). Some very good stuff, but some so-so...maybe I should have gotten the anotholgy instead. Good liner notes by Deke Dickerson on the Blue's Theme reissue, BTW.

I didn't forget it - I didn't buy it, so I didn't mention it (I don't want people to start running tallies of what cds you gave and to who), you gave me that and the Kraut Surf comp. Bongo King is good, and Kraut Surf - I listened to a few tracks and liked what I heard so far. And lovely cover art to go with that...just kidding about the cover art part. It's not good, but the music is.

I justed ordered Madhur by the Phantom Four.

If it is as good as the Phantom Frank CD, which is really killer, I will be quite happy.

The Pyronauts - 'Surf And Destroy'; Ten bucks, instant download. (I wish more bands did this!) It was recommended here in another thread. Not what I would've normally gone for but extremely good in its own way.
While I have everyone's attention, how about some FREE surf music by one of my personal favorites, The Original Onions. From Ohio, of all places. They are maybe defunct (?), but their only LP, 'Grill Skills' lives on as a freebie on Creative Commons. Very cool. Get it here:

Someone mentioned getting Phantom Four "Madhur" (Mrananda Records) . It's one of my favorite current albums. Here are a couple more:
Antena Tres "Onda Di Crimine" (Soho)
Hula Hoop "Read My Lips" (BRP Records)

Hi Tom, welcome!
Im from the netherlands, might have recommended the PhantomFour. I think madhur is very diverse though. many absolutly great, some a bit lacking. still great, their live shows are blast too.

Welcome Mr. Tsunami Tom,
You should really introduce yourself but I am sure Brian will clue you in.
"Madhur", in my most humble opinion, is a most fitting continuation of the
Treble Spanker Legacy. Not as much surf as some of us would like but it
is, after all, "Phantom Frank" that most of us think of when we think "Spankers". I loved the Solo Album so I also love the Phantom Four.
Very exotic stuff (is Electric Sitar not a surf band instrument?)

Yeah people ( Trode) stop lurking, it gets old talking with all the same people all the time, joking here folks... but seriously, with well over 500 members, it would be nice to see more people post.

I picked up Los Straitjackets' Twist Party thingy. I'll bet it's a lot more fun live than the CD.

I just ordered a copy of "Head Shrinking Fun" by The Bomboras...
I'm trying to talk Gary from my band into going to see them for New Years... since he will be in California then anyway...
He'll be in San Diego mostly though... so... I doubt that he will make it....
Cheers!

I bought The Reverburritos' "Widget" via iTunes (I'm definitely into instant grafitication when it comes to music!). Good, good stuff, and sorta homeboys (they're from Arkansas, too, but a few hours away). Seriously, good surf from Arkansas, which I guess is no weirder than good surf from Alabama (though AL at least has coastline if not much surfing).
I especially like "Hammerhead" and "Durn the Torpedos."
