Nice, Carol! I got the Dead Rocks CD a while ago - very cool stuff! And I just got the Surfaders a week or so ago (along with the Twang-o-Matics' "Rock Havoc"), and have finally listened to it a couple of times in the last two days - love the instros, but the Deadbolt-style 'vocals' don't do it for me. Still, that leaves seven good songs! And "Sarpha" in particular is a very cool song!
I don't have that Mustangs collection, but I'm sure you've seen me rave about them elsewhere - I'm sure you'll love it!

I agree completely on the Surfaders. I tried to imagine the songs without the vocals and I honestly think they would be awesome, but unfortunately that isn't the case

i agree too. the vocals are kind of like 'rammstein meets surf'. plenty of straight instrumentals thankfully on the cd.

Look what the postman just delivered!
I couldn't resist the new years day sale at the Surfer Joe Store. Lot's of CD's for a nice price plus free shipping! Especially happy with the Jon & Nightriders'Stampede, for wich I searched everywhere and the Phantom Four Spanish compilation. Now I have my P4 collection complete!

I just got Aqua Velvets Nomad last night. I listened to most of it and honestly did not enjoy it like I did Guitar Noir, so far anyway. It just felt like it was lacking but hopefully I'll like it with more listens.
Now if Amazon would hurry up with my Mel-Tones CD.

Interesting,,,I got Nomad by Aqua Velvets a few years ago and love it. A couple of months ago I got Guitar Noir. I did not really care for it at first. Now I have warmed up to it.

La Luz's Weirdo Shrine. I discovered them a couple of weeks ago and became a big fan.

Hey, I just got that CD a few days ago, too! Only spun it twice, as background music, I think there's a pretty cool instro on there!

Even on the songs where they sing, the mix makes the voices sound - at least to me - almost instrumental, if that makes sense.

Yep, completely. That's the old shoegazing-music trick, vocals-as-another-instrument, breathy and non-emotive, mixed further back in the mix. I think that's why La Luz sounds vaguely shoegazing to some of us, a bit like Lush, for example.
After three spins of the new album, it strikes me as not quite as good as their first one. The songs are catchier on their debut. This one sounds a lot like the debut, but not as catchy. Still good stuff, I like it, and maybe it'll grow on me further as I get to know the songs. But I don't see any growth in the band at this point. (Admittedly, I pay no attention to the lyrics...)
