So. Cal. is like a few hundred miles West of Las Vegas,
and HB pointed out, its really not that much more to fly here.
why are people acting like LV is next to Colorado, and So. Cal. is next to Hawaii ?

I would think that people would want to come here and enjoy the vibe of the Beach and life here.
Not bake their brains out in a Desert.
but what do I know?

If its in Vegas I will go,
but I really think that we should do a small convention,
in conjuntion with small club gigs those nights, and a big show on Sunday afternoon,

if its a big 3 day show with 25 bands each day,
then do that in Vegas. makes sense to me. NO?

I have to side with Eddie K since I'm in the same boat.

I'm kinda slow, can you explain what that actually means.

...having the convention/festival on a boat would be cool!
...like the Queen Mary in Long Beach?

There is going to be a big tatoo and piercing convention on the queen mary,
in June
mostly rockabilly bands, but a few surf bands are playing.
some bands that we all really like were gonna do it, but it fell thru.

Surf fan, and Dusty Watson pal, Captain John may be able to make something like that happen.

Spud
allows no multiple choices as I'm sure a lot of people would like.

actually, this kind of polling has the benefit that you can also measure which variable is considered more important => people can answer only one question out of several, so they'll choose the one most important. results now tell me the location is considered important, as well as the scale of the event. generally speaking people couldnt care less about it being in- or outdoor. it's a known research method.

Another option is Rainbow Lagoon in Long Beach right near the Queen Mary. There is a convention center and a rather cool set up.

How about having it someplace where there is actually lots of SURF, like mebbe Sheboygan!!!!!!!

C'mon guys, this is perfect excuse to go to Hawaii!

Geez, am I out of it or what?

It would be nice if more of the over 1000 members would vote in this poll.

I like this idea. Surf instro event, SoCal, doesn't matter inside or outside or small, medium, or large.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

the fact that they haven't voted shows just how much interest there is in this event. Stir the Pot

PS- I voted for SoCal

It is a pretty bad poll to vote in. It gives locations, sizes of the event, type of the event, and a joke answer.

Although there are 1465 registered members on this web site, I doubt if more than 30 to 40 members are visiting here on a regular basis. It's like every other forum, there are certain few active members and the rest just fade away and or only stop by occasionally. Out of those 30-40, in reality, how many would actually show up? My guess would be (?). I think the poll is a 'real' indicator.

I'd guess that the number of active participants, maybe posting once or twice every week or two, is probably closer to 100-200 people, but yeah, it's pretty lame that less than 40 people have voted, and of those probably only half would actually go to the convention. I am surprised though, because the original thread about the convention was very active for a few days.

I just had another idea though - why couldn't we piggyback on an existing event. Probably not the Vegas rockabilly fest, but perhaps one of the tiki events. SG101 members could pick the event that looks good and make plans to go. Members could hang out at the event, obviously, but we could also plan one or two side meetings/activities. If the interest amongst the group was big enough, and if we were organizing well in advance, perhaps we could sway the planners to have a surf band or two play. It would take a lot of the organizing effort away from us, and I think the tiki/surf crowds are pretty compatible.

Any thoughts? If I have the time later I'll try to post links to some of the tiki events coming up in 2008 - I believe there's a few of them. Another idea would be Eddie Angel's Exotica fest, if he's doing another one.

I voted for Surf/Instro festival.
I dunno, Convention just wouldn't inspire me to wanna go out and buy a plane ticket. Wink

I don't really care about the location, just as long as booze is served 24 hours and there's legal gambling. Laughing
