I am overwhelmed at how much fun last night's show at OTTO's SHRUNKEN HEAD was
I owe a great deal of gratitude to a Higher Power that takes great care of me; special luv to promoter FRANK WOOD for allowing me to bring this 7 hour surf extravaganza to kick-start the summer of 2008 -- with of course a nod to Nell and Steve at OTTO's for getting behind the evening as well
at some point I will post a fuller personal account of my impressions, and share the joy with everyone in some Yahoo Groups and SurfGuitar 101
God bless all the bands who played their hearts and reverb tanks out.....it was obvious everyone was at the top of their game, and the surf-beat freaks who came for the event left with tremendous, intense wet, drenched reverb-filled joy
I'm exhausted from all of this, especially when you add my trip to ASBURY LANES the night before for some live surf-beat twang.....

and from Kevin Shaw (of the HUDSON DUSTERS) who is a regular attendee with his Wife Janis,

Wow man you and Frank make some team! That was a historical event, all the bands were hot but the last 3 f***ing killed me!!!

this joint venture (pun intended) with FRANK WOOD went so well...I mean, we worked together without a hitch, and had a blast teaming up -- that we are looking to do this again to close out the Summer; I would suspect that would be September 21 (Sunday)
so watch for a new thread to spring up when I have that all tied up with Frank Wood
we will be looking for 7 bands to repeat the concept that afternoon starting at 6 pm, and run it to the last band goes on at Midnight

I just love the "classic" Unsteady Freddie w/Ivan shot. It's getting to where you haven't arrived until you have a picture taken with your arm around Freddie (or vice versa).

yeah
I still like the 'feel' and 'look' of film though
but am putting aside for a bit, to get used to the Canon Digital I purchased
I shot that Madeira video with it, as well
the pix I took at ASBURY were the first usage;
settings were changed slightly for OTTO's and the result is much much better
watch for them later

actually the waiting weeks and weeks wasn't b/c I use regular film, it's b/c of a combination of unavailable free time, procrastination, distractions, a 'real job', traveling, occasional sleep, etc !!
anyway, in a few moments I am going to start uploading pix of all 7 bands that played at OTTO's SUNDAY night May 25th for the show I co-promoted with FRANK WOOD
b/c I have to get up at 4 am to catch a 7 am flight to ATLANTA in the morning (visiting my Dad, and then hosting SURF FEST 2008 in Clarkston Georgia on Saturday b/4 flying out to LAX for the SURF MUSEUM show the next morning!), I gotta do this as quickly as I can
when I come back to NYC on Tuesday June 3, I will get back to posting some more
so for now, I will do 5 pictures of all 7 bands
check back in about 5-10 minutes
