Looks like a nice start on the cabinet.

I'll see how sturdy this first alpha is once it's finished glueing, but I might take another couple passes before I have something usable.

Box joints are by design quite sturdy, so you shouldn't worry. I personally do not have access to wood processing tools, so I have used butt joints for my 6G15 and dowel butt joints for my 6G14A head, along with wood super glue and screws. The result is sturdy as hell, and there is no optical difference as they are covered in tolex. If you don't mind being faithful to the original design, butt joints is a quite simple and easy alternative.

I'm definitely going to need the bass cab to be tough as hell, so I want to make sure I've gotten skilled up on doing these joints properly before I try to tackle that. Besides, when I'm finally finished this amp is going to have taken 7 years and about £800, so I want it to be good. Very Happy

I was actually referring to amp head cabinets or 6G15 where the cabinet itself does not affect the sound. Regarding the speaker cabinet, I will agree that you should make it as solid as possible to withstand all the resonance of the speaker.

You going to TOLEX that cab?
If so, did you leave enough room for the wrapped tolex on the face returns to allow the tube rack to slide in?
It looks tight.
