My fifth time attending this convention and we fly in from Cincinnati.
My first time there vending anything. Something we do at our shows back in the Midwest.
So to sweeten the list of giveaway raffle items I have arranged to supply one of my custom made guitar straps - in this case the white leather three inch. Value $40 . Or the winner can take any other strap (I brought 15) in its stead OR have me custom make one tailored to their specifications and Color .
And secondly another $40 value gig duffle bag. It's the big one - real nice. Here is a picture.
I'm selling the other ones - $16 first come first served. They are so nice I don't think they will last at this price.
Only one red one
I started making guitar straps around the time I started playing guitar in 1964. I use real leathers mostly heavy weight cowhide (8-10 oz) which is pretty thick. This gives the best support, tools well, and when taken care of (I always provide basic instructions) last many many years. I frequently use one that I made in the mid seventies and it is holding up great with only one minor repair.
I use the best techniques and leathers and hardware I can find and I've been capable of doing that "high art wester carving" with masterful execution for many many years (like late sixties)
The color is the best Fiebing's and similar dyes. The edges are "finished" for 98% of these straps and involve edge coating, bees wax and burnishing. They feel great and last. The buckles are mostly best quality brass, some are played. I like using those big ass honking horse buckles. Hard to find the girth buckles sometimes. Brass rivets exclusively. I've designed something special into the make of my electric straps . I call it the loop for line cord. Pass your cable through this and not in back of the strap which if you accidentally stepped on the cord may cause you guitar to fall off the strap.
For this run I have brought along 15 straps of various colors and design and of course my main thing isn"customization" - I have for the most part four basic designs that I will bring up to the specifications of the end user. It makes no sense to hold up your high dollar prized possession guitar with a POS garbage cheap and let your axe fall low budget strap. Yeah, hold up your $1200 guitar with a three dollar strap and see how that treats ya.
I will also take orders at the show for custom add straps made to order, length , color design well made by somebody who cares. (Me) I can do this old semi pro hobby thing now because I'm retired.
In the past I have made straps for jazz legend Joe Pass. You can see him using it on several you tube videos. His son uses it now. Two of the players in John Mayall's Blues Breakers , "snake" and Thompson. Percy Jones and John Goodsall of BRAND X, the bass player for Mahogany Rush received one as a present from his student, my client, Micky Hart (yeah, he likes to play bass too) of the Grateful Dead, I used to sell the at Alembic guitars at 60 Brady street in San Francisco. Many many more and some were not famous.
I will be offering one , the white three inch, for a raffle prize but the winner can trade it in for which ever they want from what is still available.
Also, I will have ten gig bags with the surf guitar 101 insignia in three color schemes. Get em while you can at $16 each. I will have two other ones better case for $40 and one of those I will offer for raffle - great gig bag or travel over nighter duffle.
