Here's proof that the Blair-Pongracic Band show in Atlanta happened. Hell yeah! It was a great night of surf music with The Mystery Men? & The Surge! Everyone was in top form and it is always great to see my fellow SG101ers. I was especially happy to get the opportunity to shake the hand of John Blair. Between starting the surf music revival in 1979 and being the de facto historian of the genre, his impact on current surf music cannot be overestimated. Before finding SG101, nearly everything I knew about surf music came from reading his liner notes for the various surf compilation albums. I only record a few tunes from each band as souvenirs. It's amateur stuff and the red stage lights play havoc with my phone's camera, but I like having it for the memories. What I manage to capture is pretty hit or miss. I mean it's always great stuff, but sometimes I find myself saying, “Boy, I sure wish I had been recording that! That was magic!” Last night I was lucky to be recording for this shout out to The Penetrators by Ivan followed by a ripping performance of Tsar Wars. Pure magic. Enjoy. —-Tim |
