Viernes De Hongos

of course CrazyAces! love vintage guitars!

Viernes De Hongos

I really like the over-the-top visual statement of this Strat. You can NEVER have too many pickups! The mods look really well-crafted and idiosyncratically considered, bespeaking a very personal relationship between axe and player. Squid wrote:

I just finished modifying this stock Monoprice strat. I thinned the neck, weighted the vibrato block, changed pickups and added 2 more to make 5, added a pickup selector, and added flash. The tone controls cover all pickups. The white bridge PU is very surfy. The adjacent black PU is a Carvin AP11 which sounds thicker and less chimey, some say it is similar to a Mosrite PU. I lowered the gold PU to be less than half the tone when combined with the white bridge PU, giving a bridge like tone but with more bottom and smoother top.

not too sure whether my slight modifications to this Firebird Studio are art or porn, but here it is: my favourite surf guitar, the Surfin' Bird Very Happy

That's a hot 'Bird, Wolfie!! Nice to see one surf. I've always had an affinity for offsets, of which I also include Fire/Thunderbirds and Explorers. Big Grin Wink

Love that Firebird with the Bigsby B5 on it. Just ordered a B5 for my Firebird as well. Was inspired by Elliot Easton when I saw his Tikibird.

thanks a lot Smile
however, it has a pretty atypical sound for a gibson. good sustain, but the pickups (a M3 guitars Mosrite-wannabe singlecoil in the neck and a TVJones Powertron in the bridge position) give it a pretty characteristic sound ... at least in my opinion ...

ugh, http://www.gak.co.uk/en/gibson-limited-edition-elliot-easton-tikibird-firebird-golden-mist-poly/85142 that's a price :O

original compositions (low-level demo stuff /out of tune, etc) myStuff not my best, but i don't like to be in a musician community without anything to show

Oh I saw that it had some special somethings for pickups. I do think minibuckers could work for surf, but maybe not so much for doing lots of leads. A firebird neck profile just screams for leads however. I bet it slides like butter. Big Grin

hi!

They do, actually, as it is (at least in bridge position) hard to tell them from Fenderish-SCs ... I once made a sample recording (for all the experts out there), where the original version of that guitar with miniHBs is compared to a few other guitars including a strat, a jag, a P90 LesPaul and an SG - see for yourself:
https://soundcloud.com/gisela-gramml/pupcheck
no. 2 is the Firebird with miniHBs, no. 3 is the Jag

as far as playability is concerned - the funny thing is how huge that guitar is ...

Actually now that you mention it, I'm getting SG and 'Bird mixed up. Uh-Oh However, I generally like the old "baseball bat" necks on Explorers, so if a Firebird is similar to it I'd probably be in heaven.

What do you think about Dipinto Galaxie 4? Its more similar a Jazzmaster or a stratocaster? The tone of this guitar is very surfer and its for me a great guitar. Someone have one?

Guitardmm ,A whole bunch of us have them . The are VERY cool .I own two of them A pink Sparkle and a Los Straitjacksts model . My absolute favorite solid body guitar!
