Permalink Chinese reverb tank.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions. Mine is covered in tweed but not lacquered. Was that an option or is that now standard?

It was an option that I bought for less than the regular tweed $320, I reckon that's a good deal....I think FedEx will arrive tomorrow with the amp.

Nice....wish I knew that was an option when I bought mine. I assume it has the 17" Accutronics pan. Some of the generic branded units from the Chinese factory have the 9" shorty pan.....which IMO pretty much defeats the whole purpose of having an outboard tank. The JRR Shop folks were great to deal with. Real quick to respond to emails, etc. Only things I have done to mine is put in upgraded, heavy duty shielded reverb cables with right angle plugs (that's a requirement IMO and a no-brainer at under 5 bucks from Antique Electronics) and swapped out the stock 6V6 for an NOS 6K6 (that's more of a subjective thing depending on your tonal preferences).

Not sure if its an option..when I bid on the tweed he said he couldn't accept my offer but would on the lacquered one.... Man I hope it's the same unit as the tweed.

Anyone know if the Chinese unit chassis will fit in a Fender cabinet and if the control panel openings line up?

I'm sure they would take it back if you aren't happy and send you the other unit. If the only difference between the units is the lacquer it should be fine. If it turns out to have the short tank, all other things being equal you can always put in a 17" tank...they only cost around 20.00

The unit showed up yesterday...first try it squealed like a stuck hog. Checked all my cords all was good, today the squealing comes and goes. I will be sending it back. I didn't open the back but did notice a couple of loose screws and the tanks is screwed tight at one end and loose at the other. The screw heads are rough like someone may have been in there before?.....wonder if it is a returned unit?

Maybe TSA did a custom modification. They've sliced up the inside of an instrument case for me when i had something sent from India.

That's a shame. Everything was good to go with mine. If you want them to send you another unit, make sure it's brand new and ask them to test it out first to make sure it is in proper working order. The one I have is really quiet. JRR Shop has a good rep for customer service. It could just be a bad pan....but that's still something that should have been caught before shipping. It is an Accutronics? Could also be a bad tube. Sending it back is the right move for sure.

I know yours is a 6G15 but my Surfy Bear does the same thing when I have a bad connection to or from the tank/pan. So, I'd thorougly check those RCA connectors/plugs/jack again. Clean them, wiggle them, check with a dmm...

The RCA jacks from the pan are a weak point. The wires are thin, not very insulated and the RCA jacks were an inconsistant fit...one was a loose fit and fell off rendering the unit silent. I bought a new much better quality harness that was a huge improvement for under 5.00 from Antique Electronics.

Also, the plastic parts inside those rca connectors (male or female) melt easily when soldering, giving a loose fit and often a bad/intermittent connection.

I returned the Creme Verb...and bought a Fender Blonde Reverb Reissue with tube upgrades and all the goodies...switch, cover, owners manual and an extra 6K6 RCA

That should get the job done.....Ironically I was seriously considering pulling the trigger on a very similarly tricked out used Fender Reissue I saw on Reverb (A reverb on Reverb Smile but I got curious about the Creme Verb and after seeing a 15% off coupon for it on Reverb decided to pull the trigger on that. I'd feel pretty confident that the Fender Reissue should work out fine. I know plenty of folks who have had pc board tube stuff for years and not had any problems. Looking forward to hearing your impressions of the Fender reissue.

Every time I see this thread pop up I think, cool name fur a prog rock band!

A while ago I got one used for $300. It needed a new tube socket, I replaced it and did some typical upgrades; replaced the original washy 3 spring pan with a 2 spring vintage, and put in NOS tubes, including the 6K6. Mighty drippy now.

Thanks, it's a 1962. The first riff was Satan's Pilgrims Spider Island, then i played a Morricone part, but messed up.
