Thank's Badger! I'm quite happy with these units, they're all keepers. Smile

Is that a 12" tonering? I had heard the dimensions of a tonering cab were more critical than a traditional baffle, but never seen/heard actual proof of that. I was always curious how they would sound with non-traditional dimensions such as this one.

It's a 15", my only comparison is the open back cabinet which I've used for the amp until now (same speaker). The sound is much more defined/precise, especially in the lower register which I really enjoy. I had to dial back bass & treble approximately to the half of what I used to run with the open back cabinet. I have not insulated the cab yet, I will need to experiment further with this, it seems to resonate a little to much and being too bright for my taste on the higher notes.
Word came to me that the tonerings came with no insulation, is this true?

You definitely see tonering cabs with insulation.

True. I recently done a little research, and yes - they're all with insulation. Terrible - disintegrating, cancerous, eczema and asthma causing fluffy materials. Part of the acoustic dampening function is thermal insulation, so construction grade fiberglass was prominently used.

I just did my cab with modern Polyurethane, 5cm thick. I had to cut the side pieces in a way that there will be free airflow to the sides of the tone-ring baffle, otherwise what's the point?

Hard to identify the difference from before, but I feel the trebles are more controllable now, generally it sounds more focused.

Oh, sorry...
Good luck Dario with your future endeavors, and kudos for creating those magnificent modern classics. Worship

My G-Spring just came in!

And the Dave Wronski signature the guys got for me when I couldn't tour with the 'Verb. Dave also filled in for me on guitar. I've had the distinct honor of having Dave Wronski and Ferenc Dobronyi fill in for me on guitar! This cabinet is now housing its third reverb chassis, it is a keeper.

Well, we know where Santa stopped first. Congrats! Big Grin

Poor sound quality(I think it is the fault of the new case I got).

But nonetheless samples of the new G-Spring. Good stuff! The settings are:
Dwell: 3.5 Mix 4 Tone 5.

I run my other G-Spring, old tubes, on: Dwell 4 Mix 5 Tone 6

Sound is decent enough to tell that it's VERY nice (like, why not?).
And the pink Jag ain't too shabby either.

Have you ever played through that El Sonido 2x10 setup (guitar)? Curious.

I have! He's using bass speakers, can't remember which ones, but they sounded great with guitar. You can go from a deep and dark bass tone to a thick but bright guitar tone by just changing around the EQ. I'd be curious to try it with guitar 10s, but the setup is incredibly versatile as is.

Any time!

I went to jam on some new stuff last night and finally had a chance to snap a pic of my secret weapon...

Although someday soon I might get serious and built a cab for the g-spring, it makes that amp package pretty heavy.
(Ps, that cheap sg with the gfs filtertrons is sounding sweet! See cheap guitar thread...)

Just picked up an El Sonido and cab. Now I need to start saving again for a Surfer...

In the humblest of settings, crammed into my tiny recording + junk room, exists a sonic treasure - my Gomez G-Spring:

photo

I know, I know. It's a hot rod surrounded by toys.

I got it in February, just in time to try it out on the night of my 45th birthday. Was I ever in for a sonic treat!

That night, I greedily pushed aside my workhorse iMac to make a triangle of tabletop space in this tiny room, and perched the G-Spring there. At first I had it running into my pedalboard so I could hear reverb-into-harmonic trem (bliss!) - but soon, I unplugged everything else so I could hear my guitar straight into this masterpiece.

I do use a Tech 21 Blonde, using varying amounts of gain, from clean to "Everybody Up." This gives me a good faux-Fender-esque feel that responds better to touch than anything else I can use in the quiet of the night... alas... I do realize it's practically heresy to use a tank this nice with a setup this limited. (The Metal Class Of 1986 CDs behind it are probably even more embarrassing to the G-Spring, and to all of you)

Even the lameness of my lead guitar mistakes can't quite defeat the awesomeness of what the G-Spring imparts to my sound. The test recordings have been many in these past few happy months. I'm so inspired by this reverb tank that I PM'd Mr. Gomez, admitting that I'm not even the original buyer but sincerely thanking him for the sounds his creation has enabled in my life.

Aside from its supreme prowess on surf guitar, I can't overstate just how effective the G-Spring is on my original tunes, or on catchy single-note reggae riddims (the kind that mirror the bassline) or on splashy reggae chords or on Buddy Holly / Chuck Berry / Grady Martin solos or anything else I might wander into.

I even played a P-bass with flats & mutes through it. The 1963 Doctor Who theme sounds incredible when G-Sprung, I must add.

This is the reverb I've dreamed about having, without really knowing it, for so many years.

With its response to touch, and usable range of controls, it's simply a MUSIC MACHINE - and the organic sounds from this unit feed my imagination and stoke my inspiration.

THANK YOU, Mr. Gomez.

A humble offering to this mighty alter, my little guy:

Oh I gotta find a pic of mine. I had a Surfer + JBL tone ring and a Texotica reverb. Every old recording I hear I can't believe how good my tone was - and I was on a STRAT.

Now I play through a 1961 Showman+tone ring cab and a Surfy Bear with a Jaguar. I love it, but anytime I hear those old recordings I wonder if this is the 'right' set up...

This was my rig for the July Lords of Atlantis sessions: Gomez G-Spring into Gomez Surfer with a Gomez 2 x JBL D130F cab. Man, it felt SO SO GOOD to let this amp rip a bit (I had the volume on about 4-5, wish I could have had it around 6, but it was too much.) The louder it gets, the better it sounds, for sure! But even at 4-5, it was just GLORIOUS to stand in front of it and feel it permeate my body! (Surprisingly very little ear fatigue afterwards, too, possibly cause it was a huge space so the sound had a lot of room to escape rather than build up a great deal of volume pressure.) Anyway, I got this rig back in '09, and I still absolutely love it!!
